It may be that the key to cracking this town's secret lies in exploiting that loophole. I would be willing to volunteer if there was a way to find out.

Not at all. Heroism can mean a loud and flashy fight against a villain, like in American comics. Or a quiet sacrifice that goes unnoticed but makes all the difference. Or a long, careful period of preparation and planning to reach a goal that benefits everyone.
