She, on the other hand, was goodness personified, the only thing that kept him in line. Gertrude knew this wasn’t true, but Chase didn’t. He suffered from what was actually a pretty common problem in Hollywood, the inability to tell reality from fantasy.

Fantastic. Character, location, conflict and how they all connect in one paragraph.

This was a fantastic character study of smart, pragmatic Gert, and dramatic, romantic Chase. I loved that she knew what she meant to him, and that he meant something entirely different to her - and that Gert could hope she was helping Chase stand up to the inevitable hurt when his fantasies collapsed, but she doesn't seem too convinced that that's a major part of why she's in the relationship. Her transition from cerebral geek to fully inhabiting her body was wonderful. I think this is the best Gert fic that I've read.

I started reading Runaways a couple of weeks ago and immediately identified with Gert having been a plump teenaged geek myself. I was sort of disappointed with how little time was given to her relationship with Chase (it was just starting at the end of the first series but firmly established by the begining of the second) and what she thought and felt in it so I decided to fill in the gaps for myself.

You illustrate Gert and Chase's relationship really well for me. They both need different things from each other, and while Chase doesn't need *more*, he needs it more.

Just...just gimme me a lil' mo...gosh, that was really nice and well-written. It really makes me miss Gertrude and the relationship she and Chase had. They're polar opposites but at the same time perfect. Well done.
