I should be going off to dinner but I CAN'T STOP READING.
This was gorgeous. I love America and you described his internal conflict so well, and the hurt that his own people would think so little of him, sometimes.
Two of my friends did a project on the Beat Poets once, so I only know a little bit about them, but this was just... it was amazing. No words.
"it's true I don't want to join the Army or tunr lathes in precision part factories, I'm nearsighted and psychopathic anyway."
Amazing. That was my favorite line, right at the end, even though it is so hard to pick a favorite out of a mountain of favorites.
Ahhh, thank you! The Beats are some of my absolute favourites when it comes to poets, and I'm especially fond of Allen Ginsberg--the bit you quoted, "it's true I don't want to join the Army or turn lathes in precision part factories, I'm nearsighted and psychopathic anyway" is actually from the poem itself--no way could I come up with anything that great. Thanks for your comment, though, I'm glad you liked it! :^)
