[Not far from the outskirts of the village, for any who have a tendency to venture into the forest, you'll find a trail of what looks like bandages, the fabric frayed and chewed off. The bandages, of course, have old, dried blood soaked into the weave, and so it lets off that icky metallic smell ( Read more... )

[Ginko is seldom anywhere BUT the forest-- and he sees the blood. And follows it. Could be a person in need of help, but he doesn't call out-- just in case it's something else.

When he sees Moro, he freezes. The sight of the giant wolf is not so much of a surprise-- he's seen stranger-- but he has no idea what she's capable of. So he waits, with bated breath. Did she notice him?]

I am sorry to hear that my kind are as quick to a destroy what they do not understand in other worlds, as they so often are in mine.

[he condemns the intelligence of most of his race without much grief]

[More to himself, he mutters---] It was my job to prevent that kind of destruction.

What could a simple boy like you possibly do?

[Ginko just smiles a little and spreads his hands]

When compared to the work that the Earth herself does--or a god such as yourself? Very little.

But I can see things, in my world, which to most remain unseen. I protect my kind from any harm those creatures would do-- and the creatures from the fear of the humans.

[Deciphering the god's expectations is no easy task. Ginko isn't completely sure whether to fall silent and hope she ignores him, or to keep talking. He's never dealt with a god this sentient before, though-- so he decides honesty is wisest, in any case. He adds, very quietly--]

In my world, everywhere I looked--in every hollow, and drifting through the air-- I would see life. Here, I can't see anything at all.

This world is a nearly dead one. The trees are weak, powerless... they can't even birth kodama.

[She might not feel the same way--but Ginko is incredibly relieved to hear someone speaking about the forest this way. He places his hand against the tree beside him, softly--muttering...] I wonder if I could even see the river of light, in this place?

The connection to the spirits is weak. In a prison, the ethereal must be bound.

Yes, I suppose that's so.

[She exhales. It's a sort of sigh, but not necessarily.]

It will make the moment that the blood of the Malnosso can be tasted all the sweeter.

[he raises an eyebrow]

That would be a sight to see. They were foolish to bring you here. [He's recently learned from the Observer that the Malnosso didn't BRING them at all-- but he isn't about to make the distinction to Moro. It's still their cage.]

I will wait with bated breath for the day I can crush their heads in my jaws...

And if that day never comes?

It will come. I will rip them asunder so that I may return to my rightful place in the afterlife, where the Forest Spirit sent me.

I will earn the honor the life god bestowed upon me once more.

Well, I wish you success in that venture. They were wrong to remove a god from her rightful place.
