[mock-amazement] You mean that the fighting for our lives against amazing odds wasn't fun?

I would say "I won't like it", but I guess if I do lose my memories it won't matter much, right? [smiles wryly]

[returns that smile with one of his own.] Got it in one.

[and suddenly perks back up] Well, you never know! Could turn up back home with several months of memories and not a single hint of ageing during that entire time! Not so much of a problem for me--don't really age in the sense humans do--but you, well, you'll simply be wiser without the physical consequences.

Lyle, are you glad to have come here? I mean, I can't imagine meeting some people has been easy for you.

[small smile] Well, you're right, it wasn't. [a small pause, during which he looks at a point a little to the right of his sphere.] I'm still glad I ended up here, though. Crazy captains and black holes aside.

Not exactly like spending the day on a beach in Brighton, but it wasn't all bad.

[a pause, then:] Have you said good-bye to Anew yet? I mean, well, it's not like you won't see her again when you get back home... [trails off, rubbing the back of his neck]

Yeah. I guess that even though I know I'll see her back home, saying bye to her here is different. [smiles ruefully] Especially since I'm pretty sure she came here from my future.

I understand. [smiles sadly] I've got a friend here I can give a proper good-bye to this time. Not sure she'll remember it when she goes back, though. [not that she'll remember anything dealing with him in her future, but still.]
