[he stares at the scene playing out but says nothing, not wishing to miss a word, but finds he's too far away to hear what the people in white are saying, so he moves from his vantage point in the orange hallway, entering the bay. his eyebrows knit together as he nears them and still he can't hear anybody else but Ganymede. soon enough, however, ( Read more... )

I couldn't make out what they were saying either...

Did it seem as though they weren't getting along to you? The lady and the captain didn't seem on the best terms to me.

Yeah, I noticed that. He didn't seem too pleased to be questioned like that.

Well, I suppose this eliminates the question of why they had a military captain on a cruise ship. There was something going on here. Perhaps the blackhole was even and intended destination, though I can't imagine why someone would choose a cruiseliner while investigating blackholes...

Easier to hide back-room deals and what have you on a civilian ship than right under the nose of your own military.

[Oliver contacts the Doctor over the sphere, whispering and keeping the image trained on his face to try to hide the fact that he's actually in the corridor behind the Doctor. someone who was told not to explore might have been following him] So what were those two people really, do you think?

[he frowns. silly Oliver, your voice and this level betrays you; he can hear a slight echo from where he is in the bay and don't think he didn't notice that orange wall...] I have a couple theories. Come here and I might discuss them with you.

[he's not actually sure if his cover is blown or not] Come down to level 9, you mean?

Sure, why not? It's not like you haven't already disobeyed me and followed me down or anything.

Interesting, right? They weren't clear enough to try and lip-read. But I think it's pretty obvious what they are.

Ohhh, very interesting indeed. [and he's glad to hear he wasn't the only one having trouble reading their lips.] Oh? What do you think they are?

Spies, of one kind or another. One snake in the grass recognizes another, after all.

Reply

bit_impossible August 3 2009, 04:23:18 UTC
Of some sort, most like. Question is, spies for what reason?

I suppose whatever's causing this couldn't make it too easy. [she might seem mildly jumpy. Aliens have not been good for her world.]

Of course not. I'm surprised I'd heard Ganymede's side of the conversation at all...

[and yes he does notice something's up] Alright, Lucca?

If the phenomena are as closely tied to him and Orion as they seem to be… [Regrets? She doubts it. But there must be something…]

[Oh. That obvious, huh?] I'm alright. Just… not used to some of the people we're seeing around the ship now. [At least there hasn't been anything that looks like the Lavos core yet.]

[nods in agreement]

You'll get used to it after a while. There's quite the menagerie of species here, but I've seen more on other space stations in the past. Far too many humans here for a good and proper mix. Are you afraid of any of them?

The Captain was up to something? Somehow this doesn't surprise me at all.

...The hell's xenogeology though? [Derp priorities are very derpy, of course.]

Me neither. Nothing surprises me any longer, not where that man's concerned.

Xeno-geology? Well, it's the study into the geological makeup of a foreign body, say a chunk of rock found on a planet other than your own, in hopes of piecing together dialogues about a planet's creation and what sort of history it might've had. Basically digging around for any sort of secrets it might hold in hopes of learning from it and the mistakes made in the past. [scratches his head; he thought everybody knew that. then again, he relegates that field of study into the same category along with para-psychology (or anything with a para- prefix) and several other fields he thinks are a waste of time.] Bit of a dodgy course of study, though, since most of it's based on speculation about the unknown and forming opinions and theories based off those. And that's only the start of a xeno-geologist's problems.

It's not good to get used to this, is it.

[...HURRR DERP DERP DERP. But she got the last part of it, and now she's trying to piece it together. Combine this knowledge with what was going on on the Sphere, and...
...
... She's got nothin'.] Nice to know that, but it sure didn't sound like those people were actually xenogeologists or whatever, did it? Hrrr...this is just getting more and more complicated. I don't like it.

Well, a healthy dose of surprise is good for everybody, but we shouldn't drop our guard.

[doesn't even bash an eyelid at not being questioned about what he just said.] Nah, they were too normally dressed. Those were uniforms the pair of them were wearing. But I agree with you. The more I hear, the less I like.
