Alchemy created two things; Homunculi, semi-immortal monsters and Kakugane, science defying metal that responds to a person's instincts to create a weapon from their potential.

The Alchemic Regiment are humans armed with Kakugane who are responsible for waging a secret war against the homunculi that live in secret.

IT'S GOT LOTS OF REALLY KIND OF GAY MOMENTS and the main themes are new life, selfishness vs selflessnes and how never giving up always works.

The world of Nippon; inhabited by different races, monsters/demons, and gods. For 100 years, Amaterasu has slumbered and monsters were allowed to roam, but she is awaken to rid the darkness.

There are thirteen gods mentioned, each for a brush power: Yomigami, Tachigami, Hanagami (trio), Bakugami, Nuregami, Yumigami, Kazegami, Moegami, Itegami, Gekigami, Kasugami, Kabegami, and Amaterasu herself.

There are several kinds of people who appear in Okami: Normal humans, fast humans, spiritually-gifted humans, the Oina Tribe, the Dragonians (water-dwellers), the demons, the Celestials, and the Moon Tribe.

The Moon Tribe has few survivors after a disaster destroyed their race and are the only ones with blonde hair. Oina Tribe can turn into wolves and hide behind masks. The Celestials are dead, but they lived with the gods.

Things can be funny, but dramatic, everything is vibrant and colorful, and... well, the gods are around in animal forms, but do you believe enough to see?

Modern day Earth, but with more ~science~. Basically, big company called Itex created a lab where they made recombinant DNA experiments. (gene splicing, basically.) Their goal was to create a superior form of life that would better survive and be suited to ruling the planet once they offed about 3 billion "unfit" people with their By Half Plan. (my, this sounds familiar....) Unfortunately about six human-avian hybrids escaped and decided to do their own thing.

Themes are grownups are evil scientists unless they're veterinarians, kids are awesome, global warming is bad!!, snark, beating shit up.

Also there is teenage angst and UST, but mostly in the later books and we don't talk about those.

Danny Phantom invisibill May 23 2010, 20:00:42 UTC
Your typical late twentieth century world, except for the ghosts. Once thought to be a mere story, ghosts began to arrive in a midsized American town called Amity Park after ghost researchers Jack and Maddie Fenton successfully built a working portal to the Ghost Zone, the dimension where ghosts live.

Since their first successful activation, ghosts began to use the portal to enter the human world and cause havoc. They are opposed by scattered groups of eccentric human ghost hunters such as the Guys in White, the Red Huntress, and the Fentons. Additionally, a ghost known as Phantom seems determined to fight his own kind.

Chouno is a crazy teenage scientist who seeks to turn himself into a Halfa so to cure his illness; first few appearances he's just a genius who uses scary robot things, but he succeeds in his goal in one of those 'oh crap this is a serious episode' moments and becomes one of those seriously bad dudes who turns up once a series.

Geez, it seems like anyone can join the halfa club these days.

Chouno has to be a reversal of the protagonist, it's his niche.

People with superpowers exist and are known to exist in the public eye. If you have some sort of not-human ability, from whatever source, you can be a superhero, supervillain, or super one-shot character who just wants to be normal. Ridiculously expensive technology and/or over the top amounts of training can be substituted for powers at will ( ... )

Danny is one of those up and coming teen superheroes that turns up as a guest star once a season, just long enough to save the world from the annual ghost/supernatural threat. And to make snarky remarks, of course. Ironically, his origin story and background are exactly the same.

That sounds so plausible I might have to rewatch JLU to make sure Danny isn't hiding in the background. Seriously, Western superheros tend to mesh pretty well.

Oh, indeed. They all cross over all the time. Just stick Amity Park in there somewhere and add in the Ghost Zone as yet another alternate dimension and we're all set.
