Wrote a long post about Roy Ngerng's blog posts about the CPF-HDB scheme, cost of living in Singapore, etc. Although I do not agree with all he said, there are some truth. They are really a bunch of rubbish. I don't know if any of you read and wants to share your thoughts with me?

I did, especially the CPF-HDB post which garnered a lot of shares. I think there are a lot of factual issues (he gets the CPF contribution rate wrong, for one) with that post alone but it's wrapped up around a lot of graphs and emotional wording so people's first impression tend to be, "Oooo... lots of graphs! Shiny!"

There was a recent release of essays, written by Donald Low and Sudhir Thomas Vadaketh named Hard Choices: Challenging the Singapore Consensus (It's going for 8.50usd on Amazon for the kindle version now!). I think it's a much better read than that blog any time. It talks about quite a few of the issues affecting Singapore, now and the future as well as plausible solutions which would require quite a radical rethink of how the government is governing right now. There's also discussion of the cause and effect of how earlier policies led to the current issues we face now, and while it wasn't necessarily a wrong policy at that time, holding it as a sacred policy now leads to more issues down the road.
