One day I'll say something meaningful again.

Well, that's interesting. It's not a big leap to restricting access to sites that offer fan-produced work.

In less worrisome news, turns out my weekend was spent in gorgeous fog on the bay in southern Jersey instead of nowheresville northern Jersey:

It very much catered to my particular tastes in a way that I hadn't known I'd been missing. That may not translate to others! But it does have a panfandom favorite conceit and delicious character dynamics, and it's by two of the fandom's great hot-fic authors.

I liked the House Divided one - very striking! Also, Taub!

*excises Top Gear rant here, way too successfully* *g*

Thanks! Had I spent more time on it, I think I could have matched the different faces' resolutions better, but I think it represents the mood of the story. The other artist went for the spiderweb-crack theme too.

Your non-rant has me curious, you realize.

LOL x 2 ;)

The non-rant was just the text above, but in angle brackets, which of course don't show up in lj! I suppose that's ironic. Or perhaps not.

It's not really a rant... it's just that I seem to be lacking the gene that causes the entire human population to love Top Gear. I was in an ABC shop on the weekend (equivalent to PBS, I think, although I don't know if PBS has associated stores *g*) and there was a huge display devoted to it, not to mention how virtually everyone in fandom seems to love it. I just... don't get it. Of course, just know I'll regret saying this if I ever become a fan XD

I've only seen a handful of episodes. It's -- it's like watching a totally different life, like royalty, or real housewives or something -- people who have astounding amounts of money and a love of something accessible to only a few people, and no seeming sense of that (in Jeremy's case, at least), or no care, anyway -- but which is made up for, in part, by their sheer joy in cars and their occasional wit.

IMO. My friend ahab99 is really into it and I like watching her be excited about it.

Let's see. From the brother (in his twenties): SGU (which was on when I arrived) is terrible, the idea of a slash dragon is part mystifying and part hilarious, Top Gear is highly entertaining, and Anderson Cooper looks good in his suits.

Meanwhile, I just want to see a Jeremy Clarkson/Anthony Bourdain face-off.

Hahahaha. Yes, apparently a large swatch of the non-fannish population likes Top Gear! I don't know what I'd say to them if forced to have a conversation about it in that context! ;)

Judging by people's reaction when I said re: Merlin "because the dragon believes Merlin and Arthur should be together foreverrrr," they would not be too traumatized. :D

Hee, and yet, trying to argue that three straight middle-aged English car blokes are MFEO feels like even a step further. It would take a lot for me to just drop that one into a non-fannish conversation. ;)

Hm. If it goes south, you could distract with a deep intellectual discussion about the nature of celebrity personality cultivation?
