Have you ever seen "Basquiat," about the controversial New York avant-garde artist? There's a tiny scene in the middle where Gary Oldman's character serves spaghetti in his home and then dances around his living room with his young daughter standing on his shoes. It's sweet. Your story reminded me of it.
I don't even know what all the songs were, but I love them all unconditionally, despite that some are pure shite *G*
:) I know what you mean. I can still listen to, and enjoy, the stuff my mom played when I was little -- Dan Fogelberg, Phil Collins, Gordon Lightfoot -- most of which I wouldn't be caught dead with otherwise. Something about songs we knew as kids, I think -- they snuck in before we developed our own tastes.
It was a sweet enough scene that it made me want to rent it a second time a few years later. That and a spaced-out David Bowie sporting a hairpiece as Andy Warhol.

I have some fond Phil Collins-memories too, particularly with his time fronting Genesis - mostly the "Invisible Touch" album.

In French but has lots of (mediocre-quality) Bowie shots from the movie.
