House 4.6, "Whatever It Takes"

Nov 06, 2007 22:41

Behold, your weekly list of random points:

- Wilson still packs his lunch. Wilson is, based on lack of other evidence, still living in the hotel, where he does not appear to have a kitchen. Possible conclusion: Wilson goes to House's place to cook. House then believes it is his right to steal Wilson's food, as it was made in his place of residence (while he watched TV and/or got constantly in the way on purpose and/or ate things straight from the cutting board at great risk to his own fingers).

- Re: a WIP, I took many mental notes about the manner in which House was recruited by a secret government agency, took the job, and dealt with the people there when he arrived. Short version: He didn't believe them but went anyway, made male stripper jokes, didn't tell Cuddy or Wilson what was going on, and left in the middle of a case without following up.

- Life partner. Heh. I do love how nonchalant House can be about making jokes about himself like that, even though he disclaims gayness just as often.

- So House is on a Top Secret project in a Top Secret facility, making alien autopsy and X-Files jokes, not allowed to know the guy's full medical history or where he's been stationed, about to treat a patient named "John." Right until they walked into his room, he could have been Sheppard. Oh, tell me you weren't thinking the same thing.

- BIFF!

- I like the patient. She's snarky and speaks at a normal speed.

- Ha, House has "cutthroat bitch" programmed into his cell. I wonder if she broke into his office and input her number in his address book and then he kept it but changed her name to that.

- Cameron pouting at Chase! She's been fun tonight, getting to play more than usual, use a wider range of intonations and expressions. And lookin' hot in the shirt-under-scrubs getup and autumnal blazer/sweater.

- Still a little steamrolled by the number of fellows with all their quirks and motivations and conflicts, but noted with interest Thirteen saying just the right thing to convince Foreman to let them to the tests; she's studying everyone and learning how to manipulate them, just how House likes it. (Also, thought of recrudescence's Thirteen/Amber fic when Thirteen said the guy wasn't "packing.") Did Mormon boy go home after he said his son was waiting for something? If not, could be a sign of his House-induced eroding personal values.

- Yikes, but they're piling on the innuendo tonight. I was just about to decide to be disgusted with it when they kept going with the vagina comment into "chances of invasion are slim to none." Because that was clever.

- Wilson may not have appeared until halfway through the hour, but he owns his scenes. He doesn't stop at not believing that House is working for the CIA, he has pre-planned responses about Chase's newest bet! He is fixated on House being naked! He has shifty eyes while discussing the importing of illegal drugs (on a dead phone line)! He is flustered in front of Cuddy and forgets the proper extension! (As if Cuddy couldn't have called House's cell and gotten the extension herself. Though House probably wouldn't have given it to her, especially if he knew cooperating would've protected Wilson.) He can't believe he's getting punished in a completely un-fun way for something he didn't do! His face! His adorably whiny voice! (You know you flashed back to him as a kid complaining to his mom about being grounded for something his brother did, because she expected better of Jimmy at least.)

- Everyone thinks they know what House wants, but most, if not all, of them are wrong, or at least none of them get the whole picture. Mostly they're projecting. For instance: Foreman thinks the fellows don't care about medicine, but only about their jobs, while it's clear his mind isn't on the patient at all, but about being right and proving himself to them and to House and to whoever else.

- "If you learned anything today, it's that you can be wrong." And Foreman hangs his head. Um. But isn't that the lesson that almost crushed him last year with that girl off the streets? Not to mention all the other times, including his misjudgment in "History"?

- Foreman/House comparison going strong tonight. Leading teams, being certain of each diagnosis along the way (was it "Damned If You Do" where House tells Cuddy he's always sure about what's wrong with the patient until new evidence makes him throw the theory out and find a new one?), being berated and humbled, regaining confidence, supervising alternative treatments that end up working.

- Poor not-radiation-sickness guy. Seriously, though, how many Brazil nuts did he eat to end up in that condition?

- Other doctor: How can you flirt with him when [something about how House is arrogant and a liar]?
House: I was right.
Other doctor: That doesn't mean everything.

But clearly it means enough that (a) millions of people tune in every week to watch him be a bastard and (b) Cuddy hasn't fired him yet, because the arrogance is almost always backed up by an eventually correct diagnosis.

- Hee, House vs. Elevator Door.

- Oh, did not see the thallium twist coming! Cool. Too bad they only gave that guy an extra dose of personality because they were going to get rid of him. I wonder if he still had his mind set on leaving and pulled this stunt because he didn't care about keeping his job as much as he cared about helping disadvantaged people. Er, unless it was the plastic surgeon who wanted to leave. I can't remember. I think it was this guy.

- Ah, I really thought House was going to get his punishment taken away while Wilson still had to do his. That would just be so typical of the justice of their friendship.

- So we lost one fellow-to-be but gained another. I wonder how the others will take to their new competitor, how cool she'll be in the face of their scrambling, and whether House will pretend at all that she's not there because he thinks she's smokin' hot.

Also, while I doubt next week's episode will be UNLIKE ANYTHING YOU'VE EVER SEEN, as the announcer promised, it does look great. Yay show.
