Finches

I know we've had the Purple/Cassin's/House finch discussion before. Last spring my elderly father-in-law spent a week with us and his favorite thing to do was sit in the backyard and watch the birds. He swore he saw casssin's finches and he's pretty knowledgeable

That big honking beak suggests Cassin's Finch to me. I've been bitten by House finches before in the banding program...and i've seen how much bigger the bills for Cassin's finches are....so yeah.

Plus, the amount of red indicates Cassin's as well.
