Back in time for dinner sounds super fun! I'm sure all the food would be fascinating (if perhaps not all tasty to our modern palates!).
I wasn't much of a fan of Home Fires. I didn't feel an emotional connection to any of the characters and the abusive husband storyline was especially difficult to watch. I couldn't help but compare it to Call the Midwife. CtM has a large cast and an equal amount of time, but they never fail to make me feel connected to their stories. Home Fires couldn't compare, even though they could have told a fascinating story considering the setting and time period.
I also enjoyed The Monuments Men! I agree that the almost romance was out of place though.
Back in time for dinner was indeed fun, I liked the 'second season' Back in time for the weekend even better, the family participating was more fun. I didn't review that one, I didn't want to have two such similar programs in my post.
I don't know how they do it, but CtM is really a program in a league of their own. It so effortlessly seems to tell stories that feel real and human and touching. I did think the acting in the abusive husband storyline of Home Fires was really good, especially of Pat, the wife.
I have so many reviews in my head, but I'm soooo busy as well!
All of these sound quite interesting, especially The Monuments Men. Anything with Cate Blanchett has my immediate interest, and it would be a nice reminder that not everything beautiful was lost.
