It is still solidly autumn here in CA. Nights are getting a little chilly but no weather aside from the usual fogs and one good rainstorm back in September.
No kidding, eh? I think the memo must have gone through finally because the snow has now melted from the ground. Phew! Fingers crossed it doesn't come back any time soon ...
Ours started Friday. But I'm one of those terrible people who love snow and have spent the weekend testing gear for biking in it. But I totally sympathize. Also I love seeing a picture of your yard!
I hope all your gear-tests were successful! After reading about the Iditarod, I have even more respect for anyone who bikes in snow. Please tell me you have warm waterproof booties so that there will be no frostbitten toes in your future.
I don't generally mind the snow but this was so early and there were still so many leaves on the trees and shrubs. B & I had to go out twice and shake the snow off the magnolia and hydrangea and whatnot so the branches wouldn't break off.
You are so good to your hydrangeas! We're terrible about our plants. We just let them be and if they croak, we're sorry (terrible people. Just terrible). So far the only casualty has been half a yew bush, which honestly is kind of sad (I like yew bushes). But that was a couple years ago and tbh, it looks like it's recuperating fine without my help.
Did you read Homer's Ghost Trails? She did the Iditabike and froze her toes. But I don't remember whether she had adequate foot protection. Me, I am getting old, and despite being mostly vegan/vegetarian, I'm looking at a pair of shearling-lined waterproof booties with lust in my coal-black heart.
I am making up for all the ferns that died of thirst on my watch during high school. ;)
I haven't read Ghost Trails but I might need to. Only maybe when there isn't snow on the ground so that I don't live too vicariously.
Shearling-lined waterproof booties sound impossible-to-resist cozy to me. I might need them to brave my kitchen until my brother gets the insulation back in.
