"they both were totally dismissive and acted like I had been reading too much"

i fucking HATE that. when they accuse you of trying to play bedside psychiatrist or something just because you are concerned about your meds and what is going on with them because they don't give you the answers you are looking for. jerks

How much lamictal are you on? I'm on both and have no trouble at all, the only issue that might arise, my doctor said, is that I might need a higer dose of lamictal because the pill makes it less effective or something?

Hope it settles down for you, it sounds horrible :/

I'm on 400MG of Lamictal. It may just be that the pill is lowering the Lamictal's effectiveness to the point where it is no longer useful. ugh.

I would say it was still in at least a therapeutic range, but yes the pill does reduce the effectiveness of Lamictal. Did you just increase? I stopped BC for this reason, oh and I seemed worse rapid cycling wise on 400mg, so I was lowered back to 300mg. My pdoc was trying to explain how it blocks this important part of folic acid and the higher the dose of Lamictal the more it blocks it which is why the decrease in effectiveness for some people. He prescribed me Deplin for this - here is a link about it:
http://www.deplin.com/
I do notice a difference, but I was also started on Seroquel, and was raised fairly quickly to 600-700mg (I use it for antipsychotic properties, not for sleep or anxiety & I take 200mg during the day) My pdoc swears by Deplin though as he has seen a difference in many of his patients & like I said it seemed the higher I went on Lamictal the less it seemed to work. Anyways - hope I was helpful. :-)

I don't know anything about Lamictal, or Lamictal with BC, but my doctor recommended Mirena (IUD) because it doesn't affect medications like the pill or other methods of BC can.

What form of BC are you on? I'm on Depo and 400mg Lamictal and I've never had any problems...

...now I'm paranoid!

I'm on Femcon. It may just be this kind that doesn't gel with Lamictal.

I know there were a couple of types of birth control that in and of themselves did that to me. I can't remember off the top of my head which ones those were. Perhaps it's just the flavor of birth control you were prescribed? The only one that didn't effect my moods at ALL was the NuvaRing.

I'm on lamotrigine and NuvaRing and I'm pretty sure that the only different I've encountered is that my periods are more... reliable. They start exactly when they should, instead of waiting a few days after I take the ring out.

I agree with bumperless, it may just be the type of BC you're an.
