when the going gets tougher than the tough can go

I just wanted to stop in to say hello.  I discovered this community a couple of days ago, and I think that it is a good thing that you are all here for each other.  I've been diagnosed with bipolar I for almost 5 years now.  My adolescence was a crazy time, and I'm pretty glad now that I am almost 30.  It doesn't stop the episodes, but I have ( Read more... )

Welcome! I am also on lamictal (coming off slowly) and on abilify, 50 mgs. It works great. I am getting rid of the lamictal cuz I now use a light box.

A light box? I have never heard of it. What is it? How does it work?

it puts out 10,000 lux of blue spectrum light (which is what is reccommended to be most effective). It's to replace sunlight, it helps with seasonal depression. Which is pretty much the only depression that I get.

Breaking up with a friend is the hardest thing. Harder than losing someone you were dating, because you always think that friendship will last forever. That your girls will have your back no matter what, you know?

welcome! our attitudes about this sound similar. i was diagnosed about a year ago. i'm mostly happy now, but i have my "off days" still. i just try to have a sense of humor about it. my counselor says that when i start feeling "off" (depressed, manic, or just not right), i should just remind myself that my brain is "doing that weird thing" and that it will pass if i relax.

i used to think that the way i was was "normal". i had suicidal thoughts and shit, so i'm so glad that i got help.

good luck at your parents. i know it must suck, but if its what's right for you, then you need to be there.

and if your friend told you that you're sick and that you need help, then left you high and dry.. then she wasn't your friend to begin with. just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I used to think that being this way was the normal. I have been having episodes since I was 17, so I don't know how a "normal" adult functions.

Thanks for the 2 cents. I keep telling myself it was because she couldn't cut it, not because there is anything terrible about me. I am not a terrible person.
