One of my coworkers unveiled his lottery-winning plans: to invite 20 of his closest friends over for a "fancy" dinner and put a black X underneath one of the plates (he was very particular about that). People would sit wherever they wanted, and everyone there would be given one million dollars, except for the random friend who sat at the black X

Man. There are so many things I'd rather do with lottery winnings than screw over my friends. That's just odd.

Agreed about the fuck-upedness. If I won the lottery I'd be subsidizing social programs and paying off my friends' law school debt, not just handing out million-dollar checks and fuck-yous. What's the function of the black X plate, aside from strategically jettisoning one randomly-selected friend? And what kind of friend does that to a friend?
