That was effing. WIN. And yes, definitely got some cynicism in there, as well as quite a bit of bleak helplessness.

Loved the shot of Adrian looking out the window at the first "I'm afraid I can't help it." The pacing there was excellent. I'd need to watch a few more times to pick out all the really good bits that struck me. Nicely done!
