What defines the self? In essence, the simplest answer is the actions perpetuated by the entity in question. Hence, the saying: If I were not me, then I would be someone else. Simple, to the point. And ultimately flawed logic when you throw in what is known about personalities. Just food for thought before I journey off from this terminal. (( ( Read more... )

I pointed to a definition of selfhood, and then pointed out that I thought it was a faulty definition. Would you care to propose one instead, or were you commenting on the one already assumed faulty? I really do think it is an important question that everyone should answer. I mean, if someone isn't happy, it remains within their own grasp to either change the situation or change themselves. I think that the movie K-Pax illustrated the point nicely. Sometimes the only thing that you can change is yourself, cutting away delusions and misunderstandings and realizing exactly "Why I think the way I do." Know thyself?
Yes, I think I will have a beer tonight. Good suggestion. But was it because I wanted a beer, or I've had it suggested to me and backed up by seeing people drink? Interesting tangential question: how much of me is me?

I dunno... I think most of me is me. I've never met anyone like this before... though I would welcome it, truth be told.

A dinner with yourself? I say dinner only because some of us would kill ourselves if in a room for longer. Hmmm, definitely worth sounding out. Clarify, please: with yourself or someone similar to you? And if similar, how similar? Same story, new names, or much more of a generalization?
