I'm still here. I haven't dropped out from the Net (again!). I've been musing about names, the nature of names, the meaning and power behind people's names, prompted by thoughts about the latest members of our small clan, brother #1's baby girl and husband's sister #4's baby boy. You know my birth name and you know how I feel about it, so yeah, it sucks when you don't turn out to be someone who fits your given name. So maybe parents should just number their kids until such time when their personalities are more evident so they can give them names that fit?

ahh, but numbers are even more powerful than words. or what if an odd person ends up being even-numbered. like i would never want to be a 2 or a 4. come to think of it i'll be daughter# 1 or one. chosen one?

Yeah, but at least numbers are factual. You're #1 because you were born first, I'm #5 because I'm fifth. Or maybe parents can use single letters? You'd be A then, and I'd be E. Heh.
