I hate to come to her defense, but why is she getting slagged for being a beauty queen 20 years ago? It wouldn't be dignified if she did something like that today, but that when she was a kid. It's no worse than having had 80's hair or a disco outfit or something.

I have no desire to look at the youtube find of her in the swimsuit competition. Why? What does it have to do with this? Sure, you could say it's part of a pattern, but that's just all a piece of everything else that's more relevant.
