My impression was that Rod did not mind talking sense to a narcissist as long as he had an outlet for his own ambitions. When they started fighting over money and how they were not going to spend any of it on one of Rod's ideas because Lynn was the breadwinner, my guess is that what started the beginning of the end of the marriage.
She lost a lot of sympathy when she described some of the ideas she turned down. They were sensible ideas that never occurred to her and couldn't occur to her because they're sensible!
Ultimately Rod ended up doing what he planned to do with the purchase of a business building where he would rent space. However, he failed to convince Lynn to move her staff to the building. Lynn preferred the building they slapped together on her property, where she could walk from home.
A woman who blew up her marriage because she feared contact with strangers is suffering from “CNS-QNS": “central nervous system quantity not sufficient.” Mike suffers from it too....which we're about to see.
I worked at a Wegman's in update New York for four years. The idea that an announcement thanking the shoppers because the store is now closed is almost funny. The announcement means that there are still shoppers in the store and even if it didn't, the work wouldn't be done. There's still stuff to put away and cleaning to be done. Lynn doesn't know anything about this job, either.
In every business involving customer service there are activities after the customers leave. Even though Lynn said she has worked in places like that, this comic strip says different.

I can imagine her pitching a fit and bawling her fool head off about being made a slave if she were expected to do that.

She most likely left 'work' long before closing time.
