The one where Elly reminds us that she doesn't really understand money at all well.

All the while listening to the cruel spoiled children calling themselves parents jabbering about the free ride coming to an end.

My perspective with my kids was to get them educated and then make sure they were gainfully employed well enough to pay their own bills, then help them find a place in a safe neighbourhood where you might have to co-sign their lease, and then and only then, do you get to boot them out of the house.

Elly's degree in English might have been useful if she'd actually completed it instead of dropping out.

Like Liz, she would have ended up with a career as Wife and Mother sooner rather than later anyway. All of the women in this strip, with the exception of Therese, either don't aspire to a career at all (Tracey) or see a "career" as something to use to bide the time away until getting married and reproducing. How old is Deanna when she starts that "small sewing school?" 35? How old is Liz when she quits teaching to run the Bed and Breakfast Because That's What Anthony Wants? 35? Compared to Elly, they had full careers- yet it's Elly we see wax poetic about "retiring."

Excellent point. Again, it's astonishing that Lynn had such an attitude about women's careers (or lack thereof) considering her own. But of course she's shown every sign of thinking that she herself is "Not Like Other Girls," so she can be misogynistic about every woman who isn't her.

Liz: I'll ask a question that's obvious so you can deliver exposition.

Elly: I'll deliver exposition.

Liz: I'll ask a ridiculously naïve question.

Elly: I'll answer in the most condescending way.

Liz: I'll ask you a question that's doomed to get a nonsensically hostile reply.

Elly: I'll deliver the nonsensically hostile reply.

Liz: I'll break the fourth wall to look at the readers for sympathy.

I believe you have the template for almost every Elly / Elizabeth interaction.
