"Send the usual condolences" sounds a lot like "arrest the usual suspects," doesn't it?

I think it was The Onion that offered a pre-made Memorial consisting of a flower garland with a ribbon that could be quickly "personalized" with a pre-printed sentiment- "Forever in Our Hearts," "With Prayers," etc. etc. The creepy thing is that it would probably sell quite well if it were real. And cheap. Just thoughts and prayers are for the super-cheap who want to virtue-signal, but a pre-made memorial would be popular for those of means who want to ramp up the Look How Much I Care Quotient.

A more honest response would be "Thoughts, Prayers, Etc."

"I accept your apology, but you'll still suffer all of the consequences."

All it means is that she will continue to allow Gordon to spend time with Michael, so she is not going to get any flack from Michael. However, telling Gordon's parents means that she is also extracting her revenge against Gordon. The surprising part is that Michael is not intervening on Gordon's behalf with a line like, "His parents will beat him, if you tell them. Maybe Gordon can be punished in some other way."

Shaming them might make you feel pious and superior, but it won't do a damn thing for your parents.

This business of their both drinking is only mentioned here and never mentioned again. The dad and mom show up again for Paul Mayes' birth and the mom again for Rosemary Maye's birth. On both occasions, there is no sign of drinking or any difficulty.

The line from the Who's Who is:

Gordon's parents have redeemed themselves by attending AA meetings and now they are involved in their grandchildren's lives.

I guess that's a nice way of saying that ( ... )

Intervening on Gordon's behalf impresses me as a damn good way of being forbidden from seeing Gordon. He knows Ford's dad will smack him around. He also knows that Elly has no give in her.

That is an excellent point, although Elly has relented on punishments before when they did not work in her favor.

Or when it became obvious that her children think she's the mean old witch that she thinks Marian was. You have to remember that she wants them to be so afraid of her that they don't dare anger, disappoint or embarrass her while also being seen as lovable. fair and kind.

Poochie returned to his home planet. He died on the way.

Is Gordon hauling a KEG while talking about wanting his parents to show up sober?

It looks like he is locking the keg behind the gate so his parents won't get to it.
