Telling him not to pound the stuffing out of her requires two imbecilic boomers to take what happens to their children seriously. That ain't them! They ain't down with that. What they do is assign feelings to people in the hope that they agree that they don't know what they really feel.
Are there strips where Michael hit Martha or Rhetta? Is that why Deanna's such a damn doormat? I wouldn't put it a bit past Michael. I was in an abusive relationship myself and I see the signs.
When that chunk of lice started whining that he had to be an ass to his sister because she was cuter, Deanna should have taken the kids and ran as far as she could from that sack of bastard!
Michael showed no signs of physically abusing his girlfriends or wife. At most we see him centering himself and failing to take others' feelings and perspectives into account. Especially in his marriage to Dee, when it was so important for him to shut himself off and have "Delicate Genius" time communing with his muse while Dee handled household tasks and childcare.
This is one thing that has always bothered me about the strip. Dentist and pharmacist are high-paying jobs. There is no way, in the 1990s and 2000s, that they wouldn't've had at least maid service, if not an actual . . . Mavis?
Heck, I knew two trophy wives, and I don't think either one ever did any housework. They did spend time with their children, but their lives didn't even revolve around childcare. Their staff took the majority of the childcare, leaving the moms to do the fun things (going to museums and parks and things).
I feel like being a millionaire syndicated cartoonist warped Lynn's brain when it came to "normal" high incomes. This is the same woman who toured Graceland and thought it was a modest family home. In her mind, I'm guessing, the income of a dentist (without syndicated cartoonist money) or that of pharmacist would be "just getting by."

No. We don't get to see that. We do get to see him whine like an abuser.

that's one of the signs, making themselves out to be a victim when they aren't.

I agree with you completely but like I said, she's a doormat.

Her self-respect is in that ditch.

I'm so sorry you went through that.
