Lovely. As others have said, the line about laughter is beautiful.

Also:
Those times, when one of them felt particularly vulnerable, a connection sprang up between them; a spark of something more. When did those moments become the fodder of his fantasies? - I very much enjoyed this line as well. The definitely bond well when one or the other is at a low point.
