Tutorial #1: PSP 9

Note: For the most part I'm doing this to help me learn how to make better icons. I've found that if I explain what I did with something, I understand much better. Very random pic from my sister's computer. And, no, I'm not a Kelly Osbourne fan.

-->

First of all, I had the original picture:

1. To make my base, I used the Raster Deform Tool
. I rotated the image to where I wanted it. Then, I cropped
it. Pressed Shift + D to open the image in a new window. Pressed Shift + S to resize too 100x100 pixels. Adjust >> Sharpness >> Sharpen. Used the Soften Brush
with Opacity set to 40 to smoothen the face. Duplicated base layer and set new layer to screen. Adjust opacity until it looked right. Merged layers. Duplicated merged layer, set new layer to soft light. Desaturated (Shift + H) soft light layer. Merged layers. Desaturated the merged layers. Ta-da.

2. New layer. I then pasted in a new layer a texture by gender. (Although I could be wrong. Correct me if I am.) I set that layer to Color (Legacy) at 50% opacity.

3. New layer. Then I duplicated that same texture layer and set that to Multiply, 50%.

4. New layer. Added another texture also by gender, I think. I set that to Multiply, 30%.

5. New layer. Then I added a border by teh_indy in white (#FFFFFF). I erased the border everywhere she was so it was only in the top righthand corner. I set that layer to Burn, 100%.

6. New layer. Duplicated the border layer. Went to Adjust >> Blur >> Gaussian Blur... and set the value to 10. This layer is Normal, 100%. My pupose - in case you were wondering - was to soften the previous layer.

7. New layer. Another border by teh_indy in black (#000000). Normal, 100%. And that's the finished icon. Save your icons as .png files.

The layers should look something like this:

Questions/comments very welcome. As I previously stated, this is mostly to help me understand what I'm doing, so if it's boring and unoriginal, my apologies.
