Although Jared was unsurprised, he was impressed by the sheer amount of food Jared was able to eat. After eating half the pizza by himself Jared opened up a bag of Doritos and devoured a fair amount before moving on to a package of unopened Oreos. Jensen helped with the Oreos, they were a favorite he hadn’t had in a long time, and Jared had bought the double stuffed kind.
“A little hungry, huh?” Jensen teased, licking off the frosting of his fourth or fifth cookie. Jared looked proud of himself, rubbed his stomach and groaned dramatically.
“Calling me fat?” Jared joked, bottom lip pouting out and Jensen scoffed.
“Hardly.” He promptly blushed.
“Freshman fifteen. It’s a challenge not a warning,” Jared proclaimed and shoved a whole Oreo into his mouth, grinning around it and Jensen closed his eyes and shook his head, sighing exasperatedly. “Wanna play Madden?” Jared asked suddenly, hopping off the bed to hook up his Playstation 2, despite waiting for an answer.
“Looks like I do,” Jensen mumbled, smiling at Jared’s enthusiasm.
“Awesome. I’m going to kick your ass.”
And he did.
But Jensen didn’t think he could be faulted really, what with the way his palms were sweating, making the controller slippery and the buttons sticky. He was so worried about making an idiot out of himself, of wanting to impress Jared with his awesome gaming skills that he was having a hard time figuring out what buttons to push, despite having played the game at least a thousand times before.
Jared just cheered, pushing against him good naturedly. He didn’t even gloat for very long, unlike Chris, who could be counted on to jump Jensen, forcing him into the ground in a kneel or cackling before demanding sexual favors as a reward. Jensen wasn’t sure if he was relieved or disappointed by Jared’s display of humbleness.
By midnight Jensen was comfortable enough, and Jared tired enough that Jensen was actually able to win a couple of games. Jensen grinned shyly when he’d win, flush slightly when Jared would pull him into a congratulatory half hug, pat him on the shoulder and grin down at him.
Jared yawned loud and long at the end of the last game and put his head on Jensen’s shoulder before popping back up and proclaiming loudly,
“I’m awake!” Jensen laughed at him and stood up, pulling Jared to his feet.
“Maybe you should go to bed?” He suggested reasonably but Jared shook his head dramatically, hair whipping across his face and Jensen took a step back.
“But I wanna watch Indiana Jones,” Jared pointed to the DVD case, The Last Crusade, perched on the edge of his bed, then looked up expectantly.
“Alright. M-maybe I should head out afterwards?” Jensen glanced over to the clock on Jared’s desk, like he was just now realizing how late it was.
“I thought you were gonna stay?” Jared asked, face falling.
“The night?” Jared nodded at him.
“Yeah. Why not?” Jensen’s gaze flicked down to where Jared was fingering his bracelet. He smiled softly, tried to hide it as he looked back up into Jared’s face.
“Where should I sleep?” He asked, eying Chad’s bed a bit dubiously because, not with all the Lysol in the world.
“I can sleep on the floor, and you can take the bed. I have a sleeping bag in the closet,” Jared suggested, stepping towards the closet as though Jensen didn’t believe him.
“But it’s your room. I’ll sleep on the floor, I guess…if you really want me to stay?” Jensen was sort of hoping he’d say no, even at the same time that he knew he didn’t really mean that. Jared nodded and his grin was almost blinding, melted Jensen’s insides pretty nicely, and any kind of reserve he might have had, because he found himself nodding in affirmative at Jared.
“Sweet! Let’s watch!”
Jared spent most of the movie sitting up, legs outstretched and hanging over the edge of the bed, leaning against the wall behind him, but by the end of the movie he was curled in a ball, head resting on his pillows, legs hanging off the edge and his arms tucked between his knees, snoring softly.
Jensen watched him; Jared’s face twitched, mouth hanging slightly open, hair floating up off his face on every exhale, floating gently back down on the inhale.
Jensen slid off the bed as softly and quietly as he could, made his way over to the closet and pulled out the sleeping bag that Jared had offered. He shut the movie off before setting the bag up on the floor next to Jared’s bed, balled up one of Jared’s discarded hoodies for a makeshift pillow and climbed inside.
Jensen turned his face into the hoodie, breathed Jared’s scent in deep; he flushed guiltily but couldn’t help the smile that broke across his face or the warm and happy giddy feeling in his stomach as he burrowed into the sleeping bag, face buried in the warm sweat shirt.
Jensen couldn’t fall asleep; he shifted on the hardwood floor, sleeping bag rustling overly loud in the silent room. The clock’s letters flashed a hazy green light over the wall and Jensen stared at it, raised his arm above his head to make crude shadow puppets dance along the wall. Jared gave a loud snore and twitched against the bed, but relaxed into the mattress. Jensen stared at Jared’s foot hanging over the edge of the bed.
His feet were big, and bare, sweatpants bunched up and Jared could see his ankle. The skin looked smooth there and Jensen longed to touch it, reach out his hand stroke along the bare skin and Jared wouldn’t ever know. Jensen lifted his hand, heart thudding against his ribcage, and Jared snorted loudly and Jensen pulled his hand back.
“Nnighn!” Jared made a sleepy confused noise, disoriented in the darkness as he sat up and peered around. Jensen closed his eyes and stifled a grin. “Jen?” Jensen’s eyes snapped open and he flushed in the darkness at the nickname, retort on the tip of his tongue before realizing…he didn’t quite mind it.
“Yeah? You fell asleep,” Jensen whispered, and Jared’s face peeked at him over the edge of his bed, blinking at him in the dark.
“No I didn’t.” Jared pouted, burrowing his face into his comforter and Jensen smiled.
“My mistake. I was a little thrown off by the snoring, and the drooling and the general unresponsiveness.” Jensen joked and Jared hit him in the face with his pillow, and Jensen, with his hands bound by the sleeping bag could only shout in protest. Jared laughed maliciously and pulled the covers down and slid into the bed.
He punched his pillows repeatedly, fluffing them up before dramatically collapsing back against them and sighing in satisfaction. Jensen smiled happily from his place on the floor, stared at Jared’s fingers dangling over the edge of the bed.
“Why’d you decide to come here?” Jared asked, whispered voice breaking the silence. Jensen’s brows drew together in confusion and he shifted his position, sleeping bag rustling.
“What?”
“It’s really far away from Texas.” Jared replied. Jensen paused for a moment and then sighed,
“Exactly.” Jared huffed out a laugh; fingers playing at the corner of his comforter, Jensen watched the movements.
“You wanted to get away?”
“Yeah, I suppose,” Jensen wasn’t sure what to say, what to tell Jared. He hid most of his life away, buried beneath his cold exterior, where people couldn’t get at it, couldn’t poke it and prod it or judge Jensen for it.
He found it easier to talk down on the floor, where Jared couldn’t see him, shielded by the darkness like a security blanket. “I told you how I wanted to do things for myself…this was just one of them. Sort of.” Jensen shrugged.
“What do you mean?”
“My parents didn’t want me to come here, but it has a really good photo journalism program.” Jensen said, fingers tugging absently on the pull string of the sleeping bag, up and down, up and down, up and down, as he spoke into the silence. “Jeff told me about it. He went here and he knew that’s what I wanted to do. I guess…” Jensen coughed like he realized he was saying too much.
“You guess what?” Jared asked voice curious and quiet, speaking to the ceiling above them.
“I guess I followed him out here.” Jensen swallowed and closed his eyes, wondering if it sounded as obvious to Jared as it did to Jensen. Jared didn’t say anything for a couple minutes, and the silence grew cold and quiet and Jensen wondered if he just did something stupid when Jared’s head popped over the side of the bed.
“Come up here.”
“Say what?” Jensen asked letting out a huff of breath he wasn’t aware he was holding.
“I can’t talk to you properly if you’re all the way down there.” Jared reasoned, and Jensen spluttered for a moment, fishing for a sufficient argument as to why that was just a really bad idea.
“Bed’s small.” Is all he came up with and Jared grinned down at him,
“C’mon, you can stay in your sleeping bag and roll off when you want to go to sleep.”
“What If I want to go to sleep now?” Jensen asked two bright spots of color high on his cheeks as he fiddled with the pull string.
“We’re having a conversation. We’re bonding,” Jared motioned between them, slight pout pulling down his bottom lip. Jensen sat up; clutching the bag around him tightly and Jared’s face broke out in a grin that could power small nations.
Jensen clambered up on the bed, rolling over and trying to get comfortable, it was difficult, what with Jared’s head being two inches away from his. Jensen turned to look, and Jared was staring at him, green eyes reflecting the light from the clock and glowing like cat’s eyes in the dark.
“So, why did you come here?” Jensen asked and Jared just stared at him for a long minute before grinning and rolling onto his back.
“I took a vacation out here when I was sixteen, I have a cousin that lives out here, and he told me about this college and I came to visit it cuz he had this friend that went here and I really liked it.” Jared nodded, smiling back at him.
“Even though you don’t know what you want to do?” Jensen asked, trying not to notice the way Jared’s legs were pressed up against his through layers of cloth and blankets, or how he had probably the girliest smelling hair.
“Yup. My mama wanted me to stay out in Texas but I just…I felt like if I did that, I’d end up going to the same school as Jeff, my brother. I didn’t want to be mini Padalecki all my life.” Jensen barked out a laugh and turned to look at Jared, who looked a little taken aback and slightly embarrassed.
“Mini?” Jensen couldn’t stop laughing and Jared shoved him, would’ve pushed him off the bed if it weren’t for the strong hands wrapping around him, pulling him back. Jensen snorted at the look of panic on Jared’s face.
“Not apologizing no more,” Jared informed him, and Jensen sighed happily, still chuckling. “My brother is 6’7”.”
“Jesus. What’d they feed you? Skele-Grow?” Jensen asked, trying to picture anyone taller than Jared.
“Did you just make a Harry Potter reference?” Jensen blushed and scowled.
“No.”
“Dork!” Jared smirked at him. They lapsed into a comfortable silence, punctured by Jensen’s spastic twisting in his sleeping bag, attempting to get comfortable with his clothing all twisted around him and his arms nearly pinned to his sides.
“Hate these things, they’re evil,” Jared laughed at him, pulled the zipper down, freeing Jensen and he crawled out of it, unzipped it all the way and laid it over himself like a blanket.
“Get under here,” Jared suggested, tugging the sheets and blankets out from underneath the other boy. Jensen stared down at Jared, blood rushing to his face and other places that could get him into trouble and he knew the correct action would be to thank Jared for his award winning hospitality and take the floor.
In an epic show of will power he found himself crawling into the bed next to Jared. Jared threw the blankets over Jensen, tucking them around him and grinning happily.
“Thanks,” Jensen whispered and pushed himself flat against the bed, trying to avoid Jared’s arm where it stretched across him, fixing the comforter around him. Jared settled on his back with his arms on his stomach, staring up at the ceiling before letting his eyes slipped closed. Jared whispered goodnight to him and was asleep within minutes.
Jensen lay awake for a long while, listening to the sound of Jared’s breath evening out, the way his mouth fell open and his arms fell, lax against the bed, brushing against his own. Jensen swallowed the lump in his throat and tried to breathe.
He turned over on his side with his back to the other boy and closed his eyes, tucked his body into itself to make himself as small as possible and he eventually fell asleep.
Though Jensen distinctly remembered Jared falling asleep on his half of the bed, he woke to find himself partially pinned to the mattress beneath Jared’s limp body, their faces mere inches apart.
And although Jared’s open mouth and the angle allowing Jensen to see up the other boy’s nose wasn’t exactly something he was planning to treasure for later, the warm, heavy weight of Jared’s body and the way his arms were wrapped around Jensen’s neck, and the fact that Jared’s dick was on him, resting against his hip separated by only a few layers of thin cotton, certainly was.
Jared shifted in his sleep, toes curling then spreading as he stretched, slowly waking up. Jensen tensed, gaze darting around to their woven bodies trying to figure out how to slide out of Jared’s grasp before the other boy woke up and freaked out, but then Jared was moving again, hips canting slightly as Jared sleepily tried to find a comfortable position and Jensen froze, Jared’s knee pushing Jensen’s legs open a little wider so it could rest against Jensen’s crotch.
Jared yawned loudly and grabbed the pillow with both hands and tried to pull it forward, scooping Jensen up along with it.
Jared must’ve realized something was off because his eyelids began fluttering open and Jensen wondered if maybe he should pretend to be asleep, to feign surprise.
Instead he found himself just staring at Jared as he eyes slowly opened, waiting for the inevitable, “this seemed like a better idea at the time”, but it didn’t come.
Instead, Jared opened his eyes, blinked a couple of times at Jensen in confusion, before smiling, wide and happy, and a much better wakeup call than the sun, and brighter too.
“Sorry,” Jared grinned pulling away, and Jensen fought down the groan of disappointment at the loss of contact. He shrugged and turned away, could feel his face heating up right on cue. “I used to do that to my brother all the time; refused to share a bed with me when we went on vacation.”
Jared’s voice was sleep rough and deep and his hair was rumpled, pillow creases lining his face. Jensen swallowed the lump in his throat and nodded. Wondered if that was the appropriate response, wondered exactly what Jared had just said because he couldn’t really remember.
“Oh.” Jensen groaned inwardly, but Jared didn’t seem to notice, just stretched his arms over his head and yawned again before shivering, dramatically, whole body vibrating before he snuggled beneath the covers.
“S’cold in here,” he whined, an overgrown child and Jensen’s eyes darted over to the open window. He pointed and Jared pouted, “You’re on the outside. Go shut it.”
“Your room.”
“Please? Or body heat, I’ll snuggle you, I will. Don’t think I won’t!” Jared threatened, nose and eyes poking out over the top of the comforter, voice muffled, and he sidled closer to Jensen in a warning. Jensen debated feigning stubbornness, but then he thought of the way Jared had pressed against him earlier and he felt his cock give an interested stir in Jared’s pajamas and he didn’t trust himself to remain calm enough for that so he stumbled out of bed, made a disgusted face at Jared and darted over to the window quickly.
He slammed it shut for good measure, wood old and uncooperative as he leaned against it. A chill ran up Jensen’s spine, it was damn cold. He turned around and wondered if he should just throw on his clothes and go back to his room or what when Jared threw the blankets back and Jensen suppressed his smile as he ran back over to the bed and hopped inside, sliding down under the covers as Jared threw them back over him, as though shielding him from the cold.
“Hypothermia!” Jared shouted, throwing himself down on top of Jensen dramatically, rolling them over underneath the blankets until they were both sufficiently cocooned. Jensen was blushing, which he thought was a pretty good feat given the fact that most of his blood seemed to be heading in the completely opposite direction.
He pushed Jared off of him with a sigh that was meant to sound fondly irritated but came out more breathy arousal. But Jared, thankfully, was too busy laughing to notice. Jared smiled happily, a little out of breath as he settled himself on his back, relaxing against the mattress.
Jensen settled next to him, making sure to keep a good three inches of space between them, only their shoulders brushed, but he figured it couldn’t be helped.
“Sleep okay?” Jared asked, turning his head to look at Jensen, both boys sharing the same pillow. Jensen nodded, not really trusting his voice, not really trusting his brain to form actual words.
“Good. Me too.” Jensen nodded and Jared sighed contentedly next to him.”You hungry?” Jared asked, turned his body to the right ever so slightly to look at Jensen more comfortably. Jensen nodded again, looking back and forth between the ceiling and Jared.
“Wanna get breakfast with me?” Jared asked softly, still smiling at Jensen, eyes never leaving him.
“Yeah, sure,” Jensen replied, whispering. He turned his head to finally look Jared in the eyes. He swallowed hard, hoping Jared didn’t notice his unease. Jared’s arm shifted beneath the covers, Jensen could feel it.
His fingers brushed against Jensen’s and he wasn’t sure if it was on purpose or by accident because Jared didn’t move his hand away, but he just kept talking as though he hadn’t done it. Jensen’s heart thudded in his chest, face heating up and dick twitching.
“Do you think…you’d have time to help me study again today?” Jared whispered, lips still turned up in a soft smile.
“Mhmm.” Jensen replied, breath getting stuck in his throat and he exhaled hard through his nose as Jared shifted on the bed, licking across his lips as his head inched forward slightly and Jensen tensed, unable to breath, to swallow, to blink, Jared’s eyes boring into his own, hazel and bright, glinting, smiling almost teasingly as he came closer.
WWHHHIIIRRRR. Whhhhhiiirrrr!
Jared’s cell phone roared to life, vibrations running through both boys and the bed and Jensen jumped in surprise, flushed and hot and hard, he closed his eyes and tilted his head towards the ceiling watching as Jared answered it, and wondering just what in the hell had happened.
