I regret to inform you that I perceived the unsolicited addition of an ugly, grey, layout-screwing navigation bar to both my journals, bimo and albert_campion as rather annoying

ARGH! I just had exactly the same reaction. I already turned the mother off once: you really need me to tell you I don't want it again?

I wouldn't mind so much if it wasn't so damn ugly.

Actually, that isn't true at all: I set up my layout how I like it and I don't wish for it to be pissed about with by someone else's idea of a 'special feature' (which offers me only things which are already instantly accessible from my header, so, er, what is it for again?). But the ugly really doesn't help.

I guess, what annoys me most about the whole affair is the bluntness with which the persons in question are ignoring even the most basic psychological knowledge.

Regardless whether a new feature presents an actual improvement or not, you have got to be flexible and generous enough to let folks choose for themselves. Simply because it's part of human nature to instantly dislike everything that's being forced on you by anonymous powers.
