e-readers

Mar 20, 2014 14:39

I'm in need of some advice.  I'm looking for an e-reader.  I want one that is really good, but not too expensive. I would prefer one that has wifi to connect to purchase books, but not one to play online. Any suggestions as to which I should look into?

personal, help

I'm really at a loss as to which to buy. I keep going back and forth between the Nook and The Kindle. I'd really like to add PDF files to read, and I'm concerned about how much I could actually add before it affected the operating system. Because with Kindles, you cannot add external memory like you can with a Nook.

The original Kindle e-reader is about $100. It doesn't connect to the internet for browsing, but you can download books and documents (I started putting all of my fan fic on mine in 2009).

Can I ask what size you have (storage)? Do you use PDF files? If so, how many do you think you have/can have at one time?

Right now, I have the Kindle Fire, but the one that I did have that was just for reading could hold over 1,000 books (1.5gb). Right now, it looks like it's only $70. I used to put the PDF files one of my professors wanted us to read onto it so that I could have that easily available in class without having to spend the money to print off copies.

Depends on a few things.
1) Do you do most of your shopping at Amazon?
If so then the Kindle is the way to go.
2) Do you want it to also be able to play music?
Again, if so I would say the Kindle mainly because if you buy your music from Amazon if can get it on your Kindle.
3) Do you buy most of your books at Barnes and Noble?
If so then I suggest the Nook Simple Glow.
4) If you can think about buying one the would you rather get a tablet.
The only reason I bring that up is that the app for BOTH the Nook and Amazon could be downloaded on it at no extra cost.

Me, I have a Nook Tablet (not the one that is out now) and I like it. But then I'm not using it for games or movies. My friend has the Kindle and uses her's for reading, games, movies, and music and I'm thinking about maybe seeing if I can swing buying one myself later this year so I could buy music from Amazon and have it on the Kindle at no extra cost or having to download the CD on the PC and transfer it that way.

I do do a lot of shopping on Amazon, especially for books and music. I was kinda leaning toward a Kindle, but I'm afraid that I'll use it too much. I've already got a smartphone, laptop and desktop at home...whatever I get will pretty much stay in my room.

I want something that I can read easily from and be able to add PDF files with hassle.

I'm also concerned with how many files I can add to each, depending on their storage size.

It should be fine as long as you don't buy to many games. And it sounds like you aren't going to. It sounds like the the one you want is the Kindle but maybe not the new HD ones. I think the one that is 99 right is what you want. And like I said Amazon also downloads any CD's or music that you buy from them to the Kindle so you can have that as well. As much you think you are going to just keep it in your room I have a feeling that it will end up in a to go bag for the trips you take instead of packing books.

Thanks for your help! With y'all help and reading review and review (and even taking a quiz or two, lol), it pretty much came down to the Kindle. I ended up with the Fire HDX because I got a good deal on it. We'll see how it goes. It I don't like it, I'll either return or sell it. But thanks again!
