A hole in my head

Or at least, a hole in my mouth, where a tooth used to be. Been having occasional toothaches for a while now, but this past week they've become almost unbearably painful. Went to the dentist today, who said "Yep, that wisdom tooth has to come out" and sent me to an oral surgeon. Oral surgeon took it out. It's very disconcerting when the doctor

I had a wisdom tooth pulled like that... didn't really give me any trouble. I didn't take any pain meds for it, that I recall. Though my regular dentist did that... I'm surprised he sent you to an oral surgeon for a simple extraction. Though, come to think of it, he did the same thing... I called back up the next day and said I couldn't get an appointment (the day before the Thanksgiving weekend) and I was going to die before anybody could see me. So he extracted the tooth, without an assistant.

I had the other three, two impacted, removed by an oral surgeon under full anesthetic. That took a little longer to recover from.

The dentist said that the surgeon may have to put me under to remove the tooth because it was so far back. On the other hand, the surgeon just shot the area full of local, let it stew for a bit, then went to work.

I took one of the Lorcet, though that was more for the splitting headache I woke up with than for the tooth.

Ooh, today's theme is wisdom teeth... I just got the permanent crown put on the other of the two way-in-the-back teeth that were damaged by my wisdom teeth (the actual wisdom teeth came out... uh... twenty-plus years ago). The first of the way-in-the-back teeth (both of which pretty much cracked in half) got a root canal plus crown years back, this one just got a nearly-crown-sized filling, which actually lasted longer than the dentist expected it to, and now has a real crown (but no root canal) of its own.

So no new holes in my head. Just one in my wallet. Sadly, you don't get drugs to fix that.
