I broke the Phantom arm.

Well, in case anyone has wondered if I died in the past two weeks, I didn't. I have become deeply entrenched in the world of job interviews. Let me say again in case people haven't heard me say it, career fairs work. They really really work. They work so well that you can find yourself having an interview of some sort, phone or in person, ( Read more... )

I would guess that the general population, in some respects, would find robots more exciting than engineers would. Not knowing how they work would seemingly make robots seem more miraculous and impressive. But I don’t know if my opinion counts for much granted that I have been educated as engineer and can longer claim to be part of the masses, and yet, at the same time, I sadly don’t know quite enough about how robots work to claim interest in them from the "nerd’s" perspective.

I had thought the same thing, but most of the people seem to be expecting to see robots more like the are in movies. They expected fast action, complicated movement. Some of the robots in the original Star Wars were guys literally wearing Rubbermaid garbage can costumes with legs sticking out. Now we have robot vacuums and walking robots that move about as well as that garbage can, but people are expecting the I,Robot robots now. I don't know. The kids were really excited, but a lot of parents thought that it was less than they expected. Is the time on these comments way off, or is it just me? Well, at least the date gets posted on the comments--on blogspot, there's no date on the comments, just the time when it was posted. If I didn't have a whole list of things to do when I have the chance, I would look into fixing it, but alas, I have very little free time, and when I do have a moment, it is absolutely essential that I waste it (as it is equally important to waste some of the time I don't have).

Its definitely way off, but it also seems to change. I had a whole thing where Dan posted from "The Future!", which I thought was really funny, until I posted my comment and discovered that I was also in the "The Future!" It was disappointing, but mostly because "The Future!" wasn't much more exciting than the present.
