So today at driver's ed, Mr. Higgins let us know that if we didn't put our seat belts on we would be 'Killed or maimed for the rest of our lives

I have to say, I am impressed. It goes without saying that "Annie Hall" and "The Wizard of Oz" - indeed, fundamental contributers to cinematic history, but gold all the same - were left off the list. But it's like why TV Guide could NOT have listed "I Love Lucy" as the number one television show of all time: it IS the number one television show of all time. No, no...I suppose LiveJournal is not the place to promote my personal agenda. Oh, wait...
I am, however, sad to see that not one of Jimmy Stewart's films made the cut. "It's a Wonderful Life" makes me weep. "Rear Window" is a staple. And "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," arguably one of the least important of his films, is a dear favorite of mine. Anything with Jimmy Stewart or Harpo Marx and you've got a winner.
Yes, I agree. I do NOT have enough classic movies on here, and the lack of a Marx Bros. film will be rectified within the month. I only have two movies on there from the time of B & W movies (Young Frankenstein and Dr. Strangelove don't count, as they were B & W for atmospheric purposes), and far too many movies from 'our' time.
I don't fully understand all the hate for The Breakfast Club, though. I will admit that it isn't one of the twenty-five best movies of all time (as I'm suggesting that it's better than, say Lawrence of Arabia or To Kill A Mockingbird), but it isn't a particularly bad movie.
I'm going to edit this list in, say, a week when I have some distance from it to include some of the movies discussed tonight.
Hahaha allright, I'll rent Spinal Tap, which I was planning to do anyway. Actually, I don't mean to be presumptuous, that could have been directed at another Katie.
I do love Rushmore! I remember seeing it for the first time last summer at Yale, and it made me so homesick! I didn't know you were in it! But yeah, that's my school...
I also finally watched Garden State, Saved, and I <3 Huckabees, which don't really rank top 25 ever, I think, but are certainly up there in my opinion. Anyway, other good movies.
One time my dad and I went to a midnight showing of Rushmore at the River Oaks Theatre. There's a wide shot of the chapel and you can see him in it. (He, too, was in the movie. More so than me, actually.) It was fun to look up and see him staring back at us.
I've never actually seen Saved, but I've heard it's good from loads of people. Garden State is an amazing movie, Zach Braff is a genius. I can't wait to see what he does next. I love Scrubs, in addition to Garden State.
I <3 Huckabees is underrated by many, I think. But David O. Russell is apparently an awful director. I'll send you this article that was in the New York Times about how crazy he is. It's extremely interesting.

But for now: what does everyone else think?
