This "14-day-trial" must be just for getting the game installed.

And I wonder just how many damned hoops everyone else has to jump through just to install World of Warcraft. This has by far been the one program that is the MOST resistant to letting me get it on my computer... Not even a full OS install has ever been this irritating. And after the 30 minute install, it tells me I have another 465Mbs to download ( Read more... )

Maybe your trouble downloading WoW is an omen to not start playing.

Well, I doubt I will be interested too deeply in it anyway, but I was given a two week trial disk. I felt it was only fair to be able to say I had in fact tried it out before I tossed it in the trash.

I have read of (and know) a few too many WoW players who have tossed their life aside in favour of the game. I'd hate for it to happen to you, that's all.

Not going to happen. I am, at a fundamental level, against the concept of MMORPGs as they stand today, with monthly fees. Plus, well over a decade of MUDding has seen me to boredom with the online version of RPG combat. I am just trying to be fair to those around me who constantly pelt me with their epic mount braggery.

The installation of WoW and all its many updates is a harrowing thing experienced by many. If you know someone who already has all the patches, get them to burn them to disk for you so you can save on download time.

GOD seriously installing WoW is a pain and a half, so much hate. I don't understand why they don't ship newly made copies with a disk of patches all ready to go.

I really, really hope they don't pull this kind of crap with StarCraft 2. *shudder*

I did it last year and used an entire evening updating the damn game. After all that trouble, I played for maybe 2 hours and never touched it again.

It looks like this is what may happen to me, too. The patch just got done downloading. About 4 hours later.

I don't think I have that many problems with patches. But then I don't have that many patches to download, as they come one at a time. I notice some have to be in sequence. It's weird.

I rue the day I have to reinstall. :P

Yeah, but you'd think they'd have a "v1.0->vX.X" in there somewhere, instead of several of them. I'd rather take the elevator, not the stairs.

Yes, you are definitely going to be downloading a million patches. They have this "background downloader" for PC users that sort of fixed the overload problems they had on patch days. I have never experienced such a thing, as a Mac user. But yeah, even before Burning Crusade came out, installing on a new computer was a pain in the ass.

Now is probably not the best time to start playing WoW because most of the good players (read: people who can spell correctly and not call everyone a fag) on your server will be on hiatus. Though, this is totally fine if you never group with people (I never do these days).
