Wounds cured by magic heal quickly, but the scars they leave behind are often unseen and take their time.

Sometimes, they take a lifetime to cure. Bill is not expecting anything instantaneous. He's not expecting miracles. All he expects is to have some semblance of memory about what happened and what it means.

She smiles gently and dabs a large bit of paste on his nose.

"Oui. Eventually." She puts her clean thumb to his lips before he can be outraged with her. "I have seen nothing that makez me...that makez me worry for you, minet. Like that." She makes claw fingers with her free hang. "But, I." And shrugs.

Would we even know the difference?

But will you trust yourself with me on the next full moon? I wouldn't advise it.

His voice is steadier than his thoughts. "We need to find out when the next full moon is, and... we need to be apart. Just in case."

For a moment, he turns away from her. If he hurt her, he'd never be able to forgive himself.

"Nobody's told... the authorities, have they?"

He knows he would be an official curiosity to them: an experiment. He knows he would be sacked in an instant. He knows it would doom them to a life of pity and poverty: he won't stand for that.

He's not willing to be an experiment for the Ministry or for St. Mungo's or for anybody.

Bill woke up to a restless dream: being chased, being attacked, but it was somewhere in Egypt instead of where he now knows he was: London, at St. Paul's. He's fairly certain he cried out in his sleep because Fleur was there, by his side, in an instant. Soothing, comforting: would that these were only normal wounds. Then there would be no fear. Just physical reaction, physical healing ( ... )

Stubborn face. "I love you. I am staying."

And she lets out a deep sigh and pulls his hand into lap. "No, we have told no one. Tom waz afraid of what would happen if we took you St. Mungo'z. Waz good idea. I will not have you marked without reason."

That does it: he's done being a stoic.

Tears stream down his face. His hands cover his eyes, but nothing can hide the wracking sobs or the shaking of his shoulders.

The moment doesn't last too long, but... inevitably, it was going to happen.

"I'm... sorry."

He's sorry for everything.
