Your majesty, the people have no financial literacy and cannot save in an inflationary environment that erodes the purchasing power of anything they save. There is no bread flour available, only pastry flour!

As I said, my own personal preference is to enhance Social Security. But as I also said, MyRA is better than any other option on offer to young people whose employers don't offer 401(k) plans. It's far better than a savings or money market account, and actually beats inflation most of the time.

I don't subscribe to the cynical notion that the government is merely dumping its worthless paper on unsophisticated suckers.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

Based on your description, that frosting was what we call "boiled frosting." Its slightly tricky, so not very common. But fabulous.

Mom usually made a buttercream frosting, which is quite nice in very small amounts. Then the raw sugar makes it cloying.

Of course, as a kid, you don't eat very small amounts of frosting. I was in line to lick the beaters. Sometimes she'd even turn them off first.

Yeah, but buttercream doesn't quite fit that description.

Oh, no, I didn't mean to say that the frosting I so fondly remember was buttercream, just that she almost never made boiled frosting, probably because it was a lot of work that a mother of ten children born within 11 years of each other doesn't really have.

Quick story about frosting. The Penultimate Wife, an only child, was once in the kitchen when my mother was frosting a cake. She reached out toward the bowl with her finger, when WHAP! Mom instinctively swatted her hand with the spatula. I've never seen a more shocked look in my life.
