This is Gay Pride Week in Boston. "Moving Forward.. Proud, Strong, United" is the theme. The week is full of activities leading up to the big Pride Parade on Saturday. Massachusetts has had gay pride parades since before I lived here.

And I've lived here my entire life.

Back in the 70s, they didn't get much respect. In 1977, I saw thousands of people on the northwest side of Boston Common on Saturday, but neither the Boston Globe nor the Herald printed a word on Sunday. I called the Globe's city desk to ask why, and was given the bullshit story that they didn't have a reporter to cover it. They *did* however, have a report cover a much smaller event taking place on the southeast corner of the Common...

Actually, the parades have gotten tamer and more family-friendly. (Middle age does that to you, I guess...) The 1977 demonstration was notorious for Charley Shively ripping pages from the Bible and burning them. John "Mitzi" Mitzel recounts it here: http://vimeo.com/56127538

Once a good chunk of the LBGT community starts raising families, I suppose the LBGT community events HAVE to become more family-friendly.

Well -- their God seems to spend all of His time watching people very carefully to see whose peepees they touch. They're just following His example by thinking about peepees and touching them all the time.
