Gone To a Better Place

There's no one hiding in the kitchen. No one is peeking out at me from under a large floating basking rock. No one is splashing to get my attention in the hopes that I'll forget that she's already been fed and realize that she's starving, absolutely starving.

Pip has gone to a better place. Or so I hope.

I'm confused. Why are you giving her up? Glad she thrived though and the only thing you can do is hope she's going to a better place and not think more about that.

*hugs*

The picture was of Pip 18 months ago. She's now much bigger, and she's less than half grown. She's outgrown her tank. So the choice is, buy a 100 gallon tank, a filter capable of handling more than that, a heater, find a place to put it, resign myself to moving all that when we sell this house in a few years, and name someone to be responsible for her in my will.

The other option is to give her to the pet shop while she's still young and cute (well, cute if you like cold-blooded hard-shelled critters).

I hate to part with any critter I've cared for. Our corn snake is over 20 years old, the eldest of our four cockatiels is 19. We've given Pip a good start, but I just can't justify the expense and the lifestyle decisions keeping her would require.

Oh ok sure it's understandable. I'm sure there are kids who will love her and she'll see THEM grow up :)

This is never easy, but I'm sure she'll find a good human.

I think I'm just going to set the tank out on the sidewalk. Keeping a 20-gallon tank around is just a temptation to find someone to fill it...

Now I'm sad!

Best of luck to Pip -- she's a lovely turtle!

I remember when you first brought her home. :)

I probably know someone or some organization that wants the tank if it isn't already gone. Also, if you find yourself with needing to rehome an animal like that in the future, let me know. I can probably help there as well.
