Bikes, efficiency, the environment, the opponents

Hi pirates. I'm taking an anthropology course called Human Ecology and I'm planning to do a presentation to the class on biking as an adaptation to industrial society, one that is more efficient than automobiles. So I was wondering if anyone had any information comparing the energy efficiency of bikes and cars, also their environmental impacts. ( Read more... )

There's a book called "CARtoons" by Andy Singer...a cartoonist, but also a lot of really solid information about cars and their environmental and social impact, etc...he really supports bike culture as an alternative, but I don't think there is as much information in the book about it. The information is very well researched and cited, so it might be a good jumping off point for you (or a really entertaining and informative read, if nothing else). At least I remember it being well cited...I accidentally left it at my sister's and now my 6 year old nephew has decided that it is one of his favorite books (it has a bunch of cartoons that totally rip on car-culture)...I can't bring myself to take it back!
