The University of Alabama fired head coach Mike Shula.

That is dumb. I am not pleased.

There is some speculation about Steve Spurrier being offered 10 years at $30m to replace him. Perhaps there could be some redemption?

I agree. Good programs have long-tenured coaches, see:

1) Ohio State (Jim Tressel)
2) Michigan (Lloyd Carr)
3) Iowa (Kirk Ferentz)
4) USC (Pete Carroll)

It takes a long time to build a program. One 6-6 year (one year removed from a near-national championship) is not a reason to fire a coach. I don't care if you're Ohio State, USC, or Alabama.

he could have gone 1-11 this year and only beat the little cow school..and he'd be retained.
