My Top 10 Biggest Supernatural Let Downs

Apr 05, 2011 19:45

I've been putting off posting this because really when I got toward the end of the list, the latter three seasons of Supernatural started to look less horrible, but then I decided to post anyway because, damn it, I spent a long while thinking up and writing this down. I guess, depending on its reception, we'll see how smart a decision that was.

Disappointment, ho! )

spn, meta, sammy!, wincest, writing, the world according to bigmamag, groped by an angel, dean/castiel

This was a pretty good list. I think I only disagreed on one area and that was Ruby. I liked Ruby in season 4. but yeah the show I loved of seasons 1 and 2 is not here anymore. It's not bad per say but it's not the show I fell in love with.

I figured a few would disagree with that. An old friend I have on my flist LOVES Ruby 2.0, but we're still buds. :P

I can't complain too much since, you know, I watch everything still, but it's definitely not the same. I mean, I got several people into the show in its heyday because I'd constantly go on and on about how good it was. I think in total I got six people, possibly more? Now I barely recommend it or I'll shrug and say, 'well, the first three are the best and you might like it now, who knows.'

I think it's a crying shame that a passionate fan like yourself is turned off the show, as your enthusiasm was something to behold back in the day and inspired me. :D

I think the majority fans that DO feel this way are silent because, well, they're NOT watching anymore. Such a shame.

Seriously, babe, please watch S1 - 3. You're missing out. So many of the show's best episodes are in that stretch.

I like to imagine this would be how Star Trek fandom might have been in the 80's when TNG came out, most crying out how it's a totally different cast and it will never work while others going on and on about how much better TNG is than TOS. :) See, that's why I'm not bitter toward new fans or hate their POV. They just like what they like and it's not their fault they didn't watch from the very beginning and had all these ideas of how the show SHOULD be. In a way, I envy y'all and I wonder if I might be the very same way if I never watched it and just now saw every episode.

By far the biggest let down of them all. It literally pains me when new fans talk about how they only watch for Castiel or just Dean and Castiel or any other combination that's not 'Sam + Dean'.

I agree with this so hard, you have no idea. I started watching because someone told me I needed to watch for the Dean/Castiel. But by the time Cas showed up, I already shipped Wincest like woah and I still ship it most and hardest. The show, to me, is about Sam and Dean, and anyone who says otherwise isn't watching the right show. It pains me when anyone says they actually haven't seen the episodes before Cas, because - uh - what the hell???

IT'S THE SAM AND DEAN SHOW. Always has been, always will be. Or something's wrong.

Epic Cas Girls of the Sam-hating variety, who genuinely think the show could end any way other than with the brothers together, alive or dead, make me want to scream.

I like Cas, but I don't like him that much.

You're an interesting rarity, because I don't see a lot of SPN newcomers who go the wincest route instead of Dean/Castiel. I think I know, like, a couple more, but even then they ship BOTH.

I DO like that the show is getting that bond together. Who knows, maybe they'll stick with it and we'll keep getting the Sam + Dean or else vibe. Hate it or love it, season six has been very brothers-orientated and that's probably why I keep watching. I mean, it's pathetic how excited and flaily I got when Sam collapsed from the wall coming down momentarily and Dean was nearly crying and saying 'Sammy' over and over. YES, THIS! THIS IS THE SHOW I LOVE!

Well, I do ship both, but I ship Sam/Dean harder even though I'm way less comfortable writing it. (ETA: Because I feel intimidated writing it in light of all the amazing fic I've read in the pairing and how hard it can be to get right, rather than because of discomfort with the subject matter, I should add.) And I think, as well, that in canon, there's no way Sam and Dean can end up with anyone but each other, even discounting the Wincest angle. Their codependency, their dysfunction, has been reinforced time and again. They need each other. I know Dean/Cas shippers who recognise that outside of their shipping goggles, but sadly I know far too many who don't, and I just can't get behind that. You have to see things in moderation. I'm interested in Dean/Cas that addresses the fact that Sam will always be the most important person in the world to Dean. If it doesn't address that, if it ignores that or argued against that, then it's an automatic back-click for me ( ... )

You know, I´ve never actually thought about all the reasons the show has started to suck ( ... )

Oh yeah, I so remember how heartbreaking it was that Sam and Dean didn't care about each other that much in WIAWSNB. Then we get to season 4 and it's about that way. :/

I don't know how I feel about this being the last season. I mean, if it's going to introduce more crap and horrible twists, let it end. If they keep building up Sam and Dean's relationship and stop it with the angel focus (except keep Castiel, he's not bad when used correctly) then I could conceivably go for a season 7. I don't know if I'm ready to give it up yet, probably because of all the reason I mentioned and the fact that I want them to fully repair the boys so I can go "DAMN S7 IS AWESOME. ALL THAT BAD STUFF WAS WORTH IT." Maybe they could actually get JDM back for John Winchester. Oh, my heart.
