This essay assumes you have seen Star Trek: TMP. It does not assume you have read the novel. In fact, the whole purpose of writing this essay is to show off the slashiness of the novel and entice others to read the book or at least flail over what they read here. Fantastic meta! I've never read the novel myself (the movie put me off), but I'm definitely gonna have to pick it up now!

In particular, the line concerning Uhura's train of thought about Kirk caught my eye:

He had also had that look which comes into some men’s eyes when they’ve just won a woman and she lies there ready to be taken.

Considering how many people have likened Kirk's love of the Enterprise to Kirk's love of Spock (not only likened, but flat-out replaced the word "Enterprise" with "Spock" as it appears in dialogue of the series and movies, as I believe spookyfbi did in the essay you linked)...

Well, Uhura's little observation suddenly got a lot more interesting for me. :D

OMG, this is so perfect and accurate and perfect! Sums up many of the thoughts I had while reading/watching, and ads some new ideas, aswell.

And, btw, you mentioned here that you own some of the slashier novels. May I ask wich?
