I'm struck with lethargy, lurgy and litraturrrre and am getting nowhere on the two little (long) fics I'm keeping open and working on at the moment. Thus I wrote out a drabble which may or may not feature in one of them in a slightly different form.
I like to think of it as Biggles/ Algy but it could be gen, strangely enough.

Wouldn't Algy suggest a Northern (or American gangster) comment, though? Where would Ginger have picked up a Cockney expression?

My old (1950s?) Regent Classic says "Hallo, there!" cried a shrill treble voice from inside, "Don't stop to knock."
I have no recollection of anything like "Cor blimey" from Ginger anywhere. (I can imagine Bertie saying it, though.) In my copy, Ginger uses almost entirely American slang, as he does in "Hits the Trail", so I don't know where Algy would have heard him say it.

He certainly says don't stop to knock at some stage, but I have a feeling that somewhere in that first conversation there's a similar sentiment expressed- remember Algy wasn't actually there so he wouldn't know about the whole door/not door thing (which, incidently, I never really understood why this was funny. Why the heck would someone have a door in a bivvy?)
I remember him saying cor blimey at least once, though I can't remember when. SPain maybe? I honestly can't remember. When I get books back I'll read them and let you know.
