Do you tend to have habits when you eat. Like eating in front of a TV? I read that sometimes if you change how you do something, even slightly, it makes it much easier to break the habit (like instead of reaching for the chip with your right hand reaching with your left. Or do something other than watch tv (or whatever you do when you eat). Or maybe even do what you do when you eat in a different room
( ... )
Oh, I'll add on that I *love* food and I do think I have a food addiction (I bet judging from your post you might too, at least with using the food to console yourself). I would eat when I was happy, eat when I was sad, eat when I was bored. Only time I don't eat is when I'm really nervous (I get an upset stomach).
One thing I did to make a concession to myself as I do love food, was once a week I had a "day off" where I didn't worry about it and if I was craving something that week I'd have it on that day. It meant if I had a strong craving in the week I'd just tell myself to wait til my day off and I could have it. Which meant I didn't feel as much pressure to resist craving... just enough to resist it til a certain day. I still do that. And I refuse to pay attention to my diet on vacation as well (I'm sure my friends back home when I visit my parents think I magically lost the weight cause I eat like crazy there).
Sorry, no edit button (I have a free account). But I really do recomend a day off kind of thing. Especially if you really love food. Cause I didn't want to give up my love of food, that was completely off the table (I still love food and really I do revolve my day around it). So the day off helped me with being able to still have times to enjoy food and not have to try to give up my love of food (the rest of the week for me I had scheduled food that I wasn't excited about but wasn't bad. It was the closest to cutting food cold turkey I could think of).
