gunshots outside my window!
I'm okay. I'm alive, and I'm uninjured. But I swear I have so much trouble getting a good night's sleep nowadays.
Last night, I was sorting through magazines, and I stayed up until 2am. That's the last time I saw on the clock as my head hit the pillow. I had a window open to let in some cool air.
Suddenly I hear a very fierce argument a ways outside my window, a lot of "fucks" and other profanities, and a bang. The clock reads a little after 3am, so I must have been asleep. I knew the bang was higher than a tire exploding, but I wondered it it was fireworks. Our neighborhood is a quiet college neighborhood with frat houses, the occasional party the cops break up, and idiot frat boys setting off fireworks at 1am. But I knew it wasn't fireworks, and in the few seconds of calm debated what to do.
Then:
bang-bang, bang bang bang, bang, bang bang....
Anywhere from 6-12 gunshots. I knew they were gunshots due to the irregular staggardness to them. I grabbed my glasses, rolled out of bed, and crawled around my apartment until I could peek out the window. I knew where the shots were coming from, an apartment building 200 feet from my apartment house several doors down. Sure enough I could see activity down there. I called the police and told them what I saw.
By that time other people had called the cops and I could hear a bunch of cops frantically on their way. I met up with my manager who had actually witnessed part of it, and he talked to the cops, and they combed the area. 5-10 minutes later, I heard two cops order someone to the ground several times, so I think they arrested someone.
I went to sleep but with my adrenaline as high as it was it was tough.
I haven't seen anything on the news but I'll let you guys know. But I'm okay, just a bit shaken (not stirred).
