Outside Umbridge's Office, Sunday

Jul 29, 2012 13:04

While Bel and Jono took Alec to find Umbridge's time device, Zoe took Kitty and Alex, and headed to find Umbridge. Thankfully, with all the fighting going on outside, the school itself was fairly empty, so it didn't take long for the trio to reach Umbridge's office door.

It was possible that, if she was even in there, Umbridge would come along quietly. It was possible that with their combined skills, they'd be able to subdue her. But Zoe knew full well that those options might not work, and more drastic measures might need to be taken. She was prepared for that, but she wasn't certain about the others.

"If you want to go back outside, I'll understand," she said. She didn't want to put anyone in Umbridge's path if they didn't want to be there.

Kitty Pryde
"I think we're sort of committed at this point," Kitty told her. Was she looking forward to dealing with a sadistic witch in need of some serious therapy? No, not really. But they'd gotten this far...

Alex Aaron
"Yeah, I'm not really into the turning back thing," Alex agreed. He needed to repay Umbridge for getting the drop on him and sticking him in detention. He was a god. He had his dignity.

Zoe Winchester
Zoe smiled, and her expression turned a little darker as she glanced at the door. "Do whatever you need to to defend yourself. She won't hold back, and it's long past time that we didn't either."

Kitty
"Got it," Kitty said with a nod. "So are we ready to go say hi?"

Alex
Alex put his hand on the hilt of his sword, a faint glow lighting in the depth of his eyes. "Past ready."

So what was Umbridge afraid of? That was the question.

Zoe
Zoe nodded, and then took a step back and kicked the door open. Umbridge would just have to deal with their lack of manners in not knocking.

High Inquisitor Umbridge
Umbridge was not going to be pleased at all with the interruption. Didn't these people know she had an island to run? Didn't they know it was hard to deal with so many misbehaving miscreants?

She shot up out of her chair, wand immediately in her hand. "What do you think you're doing? Get out of here!"

She was shrill voiced and agitated. "You do not have an invitation!"

Kitty
"Nope, we don't," Kitty agreed, looking sort of happy to be able to say that. "But turns out we're cool with that."

Alex
"Invitations are for losers," Alex agreed cheerfully. "You're scared, aren't you?" he asked, like this was kind of fascinating. And maybe making it more true with his words. Fear god, after all. But that was good, Umbridge should be scared of them. Couldn't she feel how scared she should be?

Zoe
"You know, I think she is scared." Perhaps Zoe shouldn't have taken delight in that, but it had been a long few years in detention, and she wasn't as nice as she could have been anymore. "I told you that you wouldn't be able to do this forever. Everyone's out of detention. You're not going to be able to control this place anymore. The way I see it, you have two options: you can come with us quietly, or not."

High Inquisitor Umbridge
"Do you really think you've won?" Umbridge asked, twirling her wand around and striving to keep bravado in her voice. "Yes, you're out of detention. Congratulations, that's quite an accomplishment."

But, she'd make sure it was their only accomplishment. "What makes you think you have the power to apprehend me? I'm the powerful one! Me!"

Kitty
Kitty tilted her head, looking genuinely confused by that.

"Uh. You do realize where you are, right?"

Alex
"I thought she'd at least gotten the memo that she wasn't the only powerful thing on this island and that was why she kept tossing us in detention," Alex said to Kitty. He also looked kind of confused. To Umbridge, he said, "Hi, I'm a god? And I'm not the only one?" Dammit, Loki.

Zoe
"You have no power here anymore. No more brainwashing people. No more ruling through fear," Zoe said. "Hand over your wand. You can make this easy on yourself."

High Inquisitor Umbridge
"Give up my wand? Give up my hand?" Umbridge said, keeping the wand pointed at them. "I'll do no such thing. Have you forgotten what I can do? Do you remember Anakin Skywalker?!"

Kitty
"Well, I wasn't here for that," Kitty said, almost sheepishly. "Look, you've lost. You lost hard."

Alex
"I wasn't either," Alex piped in. "And seriously. Just give up already."

Zoe
Zoe tried to move so she was in front of Kitty and Alex, because old habits died hard. She put her hand down to her thigh holster as she eyed Umbridge. "Already, your old actions are losing their effect. It's almost sad. Or just pathetic."

High Inquisitor Umbridge
Umbridge didn't back down. That wasn't going to happen even if she knew she was outnumbered.

She stared at the trio before actually throwing a few spells at them. They weren't killing curses or torture curses. They were just meant to stun, to shock and to maybe make them stop talking like she was inferior.

She wasn't!

"Stupefy!" she shouted, throwing the spell at them without mercy.

Kitty
Kitty's first, completely automatic response whenever there was danger was always to become intangible. Which is what she did now, but this time she reached to try and touch Zoe and Alex as well to protect them.

Plus if Umbridge couldn't hit them, maybe it'd help get the point across that she couldn't hurt any of them anymore.

Alex
Alex was glad Kitty's hand landed on his shoulder, because it meant he had his arm free to draw his sword. Since Umbridge had gone and upped the stakes, and all.

Zoe
Whatever Kitty did when she touched her, Zoe was grateful for it, because it gave her a chance to pull out her gun. And yes, anything that would weird Umbridge out and make her feel less powerful was a good thing in Zoe's book.

High Inquisitor Umbridge
"Do you think a magic trick will stop me?" Umbridge asked, sounding a little wary now. "I can do magic too! I'll destroy this entire office and you all down with me!"

Kitty
Kitty let go of both of them, ready to phase them again if needed. But for now, Umbridge now had two tangible people with weapons to face now, and one who could get really creative there. Good luck with that.

"Actually, no," Kitty said, poking her head out from behind Zoe. "You can destroy the office all you want, but you can't do anything to us. We definitely have that one up on you."

Alex
"By the way," Alex said, because he wanted to see if Umbridge's head would explode, "we're not using magic. Just good genes. Or," and his eyes started glowing more as he pushed the fear on Umbridge, "maybe we are. Maybe we've stolen your magic and you'll never get it back."

High Inquisitor Umbridge
Umbridge, for her part, did look frightened for a few moments. She wasn't going to just give in though. Instead, she glared around the room and just started firing off curses.

"Crucio!" she shouted, flinging her wand around. "Crucio! Crucio!"

Kitty
And that would be Kitty going for the protective phase touch again.

"That didn't work the first time!"

Alex
"Your magic can't touch us," Alex told Umbridge. "You're powerless. You've lost, Dolores" Yeah, the fourteen-year-old with the sword and the freaky glowing eyes had decided they were on a first name basis. She'd just have to get over it.

Zoe
Yes, she would have to get over losing her precious High Inquisitor title. But she might want to think about ducking out of the way of Zoe shooting at her first.

Ex-High Inquisitor Umbridge
Now, Umbridge was a powerful witch. She could do a lot of things and she could do them well but she was also an older woman who wasn't that spry so diving out of the way of bullets?

That wasn't going to happen. When the bullet met flesh, her eyes widened and she looked down at the blood ballooning across the front of her pink dress.

"...no," she managed to whimper before she crumpled to her knees behind her desk. She tried to catch her breath but that just wasn't going to happen.

Kitty
Kitty hadn't been in this town that long, but after only months of living here she hadn't been entirely sure that this plan would actually work.

Without saying a word, she walked over partly to make sure Umbridge wasn't faking, but mostly to take her wand.

Alex
Alex peered at Umbridge. That was a lot of blood. He nudged at her with the tip of his sword. "I'm pretty sure she's dead."

Zoe
In another time, maybe another life, Zoe would have been horrified at herself for firing upon another person in front of a student, and someone as young as Kitty. But now, all she could feel was a sense of relief. "And good riddance too."

Kitty
"I think you get to keep this," Kitty said, holding the wand out to Zoe.

And then stopped, turning it around and holding it a bit differently to try and avoid handing her anything with blood on it. There, better.

Alex
"Or maybe you should...get rid of that," Alex suggested. It seemed like it might be a bad thing to have around.

Zoe
"You know, that's probably a good idea."

Zoe took the wand from Kitty and snapped it in half, tossing it on the floor next to Umbridge's body. There was probably a lot left to do before everyone could feel closure, but this felt like a very good start.

"Come on," she said, smiling. "We should check on the others, and let everyone know she's gone." Anything else they'd have to deal with would have to be easier now.
