Office Hours, March 19

Mar 19, 2014 06:00

It had been one thing when the weird talk had just been about folks thinking they were the wrong people, or waking up with the wrong bits and such. Those were all things that had happened before and would likely happen again, although maybe not for as long as this had been going on. Still, Zoe hadn't been too worried, but now there were new folks, ( Read more... )

Oh, Zoe.

Zoe. Zoe. Zoe.

Don't you know that putting Jamie Madrox's name in the narrative is just an invitation for trouble?

For there was Jamie Madrox. At her doorway. And he had coffee and pie.

"Hello Principal Winchester!" Jamie said cheerfully. "My name is Jamie Madrox and I'm from..."

At this point Jamie Paused and then poised himself for dramatic effect.

"THE FUTURE!"

It was all very dramatic you see.

Zoe didn't pick her head up right away, like not looking at Jamie would make him not real. When she did look up, she sighed, looking him over for any immediate sign of danger. "So I've heard," she said. "Why aren't you in the future right now?"

"Good question," Jamie answered. "I have no clue. One minute I was not enjoying a dystopian future and the next minute I crashed on a table at the Perk. Apparently you have weird stuff going on here so I'm going to blame that."

Jamie settled down in one of the chairs across from Zoe.

"Then again everything's weird on a regular basis in Fandom whether it's in the past or the future. So who can tell. But that's not why I'm here today."

After a long moment of glaring at him, Zoe finally said, "All right, I'll bite. Why are you here?" Hopefully not to bring any kind of dystopia with him. This wasn't a young adult novel, no matter how many teenagers were running around.

Okay, no dystopia but there had to be a love triangle someplace right?

Jamie wasn't sure what the hostile glare was for but pushed that aside for the moment.

"Well, in the future there's this guy named Underwood," Jamie began. "And two more named Joffrey and Tywin Lannister. They're pretty much the last people you want running the school and the island. It's not a school so much any more as a prison and there's no freedom whatsoever. I was hoping there was a way you could help me and a few friends from making that happen."

That was surprisingly somber, and made more evidence for the idea that this wasn't quite the Jamie she'd known before. "What sort of help are you looking for?" she asked, her expression softening.

Hey! Jamie could be serious when needed!

Granted that didn't happen when he streaked at graduation...

"Do you have any way to communicate with the school board?" Jamie asked, "Is there a way to pass on a warning? I was also wondering if I could have access to Special Collections to research a way to fix my future if that doesn't work?"

"I don't know if you want to communicate with our school board. They're... let's just say they're barely helpful on a good day," Zoe said. "I suppose if you think your present is our future, I could pass a message to them and hope it sticks. I'm... not a fan of letting people into Special Collections. Especially people I don't know well." Or anyone with Madrox in their name, sorry Jamie.

Damn it Zoe! He brought you pie!

Jamie frowned. "Okay. I understand your reasoning with Special Collections," he said with a nod. "As for the message I was actually thinking of a presentation. Actually it's more like a musical number..."

At this pint in the conversation, multiple Jamies were entering the room wearing cabaret outfits.

"Not now!" Jamie hissed.

She wasn't going to snicker, that would only encourage him. Please ignore the smirking. "It wouldn't hurt to go with something simple."

The disappointed duplicates pouted and headed for the door while Jamie turned and shouted "Cancel the jugglers!" before returning his attention to the Principal.

"Thanks for your time, Principal Winchester," Jamie said gratefully. "I'll come up with a message with some of my other time-stranded friends and get it to you later."

"All right. I suppose it's better that you're here than there," she said. "And if you can figure out how you ended up here, you might get a presentation. Might." Never let it be said that she couldn't be nice sometimes.

"Thank you, Principal Winchester," Jamie said with a grin. "You won't regret this."

Zoe will totally regret this.
