Zoe's Office Hours - February 4

Feb 04, 2006 15:00

Zoe sits in her office, reading more of the mystery novel she started yesterday. She's been humming under her breath all morning, but she isn't entirely sure why.

The door is open for anyone who wants to sing at her needs her.

Veronica showed up at Zoe's door around 2 for her interview for the paper. She had managed to get back to her room and showered, though she was still exhausted and carrying a huge travel mug of coffee.

She knocked and hoped she would be able to get through the interview coherently.

Zoe looked up and gave Veronica a friendly smile. "Hi there. Can I help you?"

"I'm Veronica Mars," she said, forcing a smile. "I'm here to interview you for the school paper. How are you?"

"I'm all right. Come on in." Zoe ushered Veronica in and pointed to the chair in front of her desk. "I remember speaking to you about coming in. I still don't know why anyone would want to read about me in the paper," she remarked.

Veronica sat down, took out the shiny recorder Jaye had given her for Christmas and a tablet.

"Everyone here seems to have a fascinating story," Veronica explained as she set everything up. "Do you mind if I record this conversation?"

Zoe shook her head. "Not if it helps you keep track of everything." She sat back in her chair. "So, what would you like to know? I hope it ends up being fascinating."

"Well let's start with the basics. What did you do before coming to Fandom and how did you end up here?"

"Before I came here, I was a corporal in the Independent Army. We had a...bit of a civil war, during which the leader of my unit and I ended up becoming good friends. I spent the next few years working on his ship, Serenity." Zoe smirks softly. "But that's the sort of thing you can only do for so long before it starts getting to you, so when I was contacted by the school, I let myself be talked into taking the job as dean."

"So you're not from around here then?" Veronica clarified. "Where, and when, exactly, are you from?"

Zoe paused, trying to find the best way to phrase it. "No, I'm not technically from around here. This always sounds so odd when I say it - I'm from here in that I'm from Earth. But I'm from about 500 years in the future."

"That's not actually that odd around here," Veronica assured her. "In case you haven't noticed, this place kind of shatters all those boundries of what people consider normal."

She smiled and looked at her notes. "You said you worked on a ship for a few years? A ship in the water or a ship that flies? What did you do on it?"

"I'm certainly starting to learn that. And here I thought I was finally learning what could be considered normal."

"And it was a ship that flew, if you have a wide definition of what you'd consider 'flying,'" she continued. "Sometimes it was more coasting and praying that gravity didn't kick in. Essentially, we were couriers who performed a lot of odd jobs. I was the second-in-command on the ship."

"Sounds interesting," Veronica said, scribbling down some notes. "Any funny stories you can share?"

"Oh, there are quite a few stories the came from my time on Serenity, but I don't know if any of them are appropriate for a school newspaper. We had some very interesting times."

Veronica chuckled. "Okay, one last question. What are you most looking forward to with your position here and what frightens you about it the most?"

Zoe grinned. "That's a good question. I'm looking forward to getting to know the different teachers, and living in a time that I've only read about in history books. What frightens me the most? I'd say the cafeteria food."
