John knocked on the open door, Grace back in her baby sling. "Have you wrestled the paperwork into submission?"

Zoe found herself relaxing almost instantly at the sight in front of her. "Some of it, although if I don't see another credit card application for a while, I will be very pleased. How was your day?" she asked.

"There was napping and eating and an extended session of peek-a-boo," John said with a smile. "So it's been a full day."

"That does sound like a full day," Zoe said, grinning as she went over to them. "You must be all worn out from such excitement."

"Positively exhausted," John quipped, as he crossed the room and sat in his usual place on the edge of her desk.

Zoe laughed and went to take Grace out of the sling. "Did you wipe Daddy out? Good girl."

Grace gurgled happily as her mother picked her up.

"Looks like someone missed you," John observed.

"I missed her too," Zoe said, hugging Grace nice and tight against her. "And you as well," she added.

John smiled and leaned over to steal a kiss. "Have to get used to sharing you with the entire school again."

"Yes, but you get all of my non-school time," she pointed out. "Then you only have to share me with Grace. It's a good thing she likes to sleep sometimes."

"A very good thing," John agreed.

Zoe leaned in to give him a gentle kiss. "So, are you looking forward to your class?"

"I'll let you know after I get a feel for the students taking it," John said with a wry smile. "Though the research for it has been fascinating. It's not the number of invasions that's shocking so much as the sheer variety."

[bigdamndean]

"I've learned to never say, 'Oh, that sort of thing will never show up here,' because then it will, and it'll be twice as big as I imagined it," Zoe said.

"These things usually do end up being bigger than reported," John said.
