Mal & Zoe and that war they fought
One of the things I like best about 'The Message' is some of the background we learn about Mal & Zoe and their time in the war. Their friendship fascinates me in a way that few fictional relationships do. It's strong, loyal, almost unconditional and without the sexual tension that fandom seems to overlay on practically every other relationship. (I say that being a self-described multi-shipper, myself) It's like they're waving a flag saying "See? Het platonic BFF-ery CAN happen!!"
